| 545912 | 2007-05-01 08:31:00 | It came today and while I was surprised that there was no disk I must admit that mostly I find nothing on the disks that is worthwhile. Have not dived into it yet but the front cover graphic is clever and it states right there on the cover: "BELIEVE THE HYPE. Much faster internet is coming. THIS year. ...ADSL2+ ..." Really? How can this be, when Telecon will be the main player?! | Strommer (42) | ||
| 545913 | 2007-05-01 11:22:00 | I too am disappointed with this months mag. It didn't take me all that long to read this months. I must say that Ive been disappointed with all of the NZPCW mags of late. I haven't even bothered putting the last couple of discs in my drive. Gone are the days when you could find all sorts of interesting programs on the cover discs (whether they be free or trials). Now the discs are mainly the same old 'essentials' (that don't change from month to month) and a couple of game demos. Is all very very sad. |

Didn't they used to run a web design awards system, but I haven't heard anything about it for years. It really went down hill after it got taken over by and ozzie company |

Broadband has probably killed the free DVD, as the software is outof date as soon as it does onto the dvd, and you can easily download the latest version from the manufacturers website. Maybe they should offer free versions of old versions of software. Some magazines used to do this, I got an older version of Dreaweaver free from one of the mags. |

| 545916 | 2007-05-01 14:01:00 | Well first it was our back page, now it's no cd/dvd. And a page wasted telling us what's online. I reckon the mag will go out of business before long and everything will be online. Then a hefty fee to read it online. Oh well PCW has deteriorated so much over the past few months that I won't miss it. Tell us what you would like exactly,we maybe able to accommodate. |

| 545918 | 2007-05-01 21:14:00 | Broadband has probably killed the free DVD, as the software is outof date as soon as it does onto the dvd, and you can easily download the latest version from the manufacturers website. The reality for many on our unique "broadband" service and also those in rural areas, is that the speed of downloads almost means a computer downloating software is actually starting the job for it's succesor. By the time the software is all transferred, the computer is obsolete, and it's software may no longer be supported. The girl/boy friend is now the spouse, the children have grown up and left home. Worst of all, the software you so eagerly selected as a teenager is of far less appeal when it finally completes the download as you enter middle age. Good things take time, but thanks to Telecom/Xtra so do all things via the 'net. |

| 545919 | 2007-05-01 21:38:00 | Personally Ive been quite a happy long-term reader :) CD / DVD is _never_ used by me, dont think Ive put it in my PC in about 18 months... Geoff Palmer? Security paranoid? The man has every right to be, he's a lot more balanced than some of the nuts Ive seen around here ;) Dumb terminal was cool thou, shame to see that gone :( Digicam reviews? Maybe in FFWD?! But yes, I agree, has been a lot of Microsoft stuff lately, Vista this, Vista that, Office 2007 this... I feel like some more Graphics card benchmarks :D Benchmarks are cool, like the speed test done in Vista vs XP 2 months back! I think Im ranting on about nothing, this would be classed as dribble... :D |

| 545920 | 2007-05-01 21:38:00 | Obviously its necesary to have an issue featuring lots of digital camera reviews to restore Jack to his normal happy state. I've got a couple of nice ones here from Olympus, so he should be sweet. |

| 545921 | 2007-05-01 22:19:00 | Simple. A computer magazine. You want a computer magazine? I have a few here that deal with TRS80s and Amigas. I am not sure that you can buy a 300/75 modem these days. I am certain that FlightSim X will not run on a Trash80 even if you could afford a rather large number of 5 1/4" floppy disks for the installation media. |
