545455 2007-04-30 06:04:00 Joe, I don't think Dr Spock can be blamed for a "nation of killers and street hoods". The US has a long history of lynching and gang violence. (Even "official gang" violence: the "Western" posses apparently weren't too concerned about evidence and legal process).

The Ku Klux Klan goes back a few years, and they wore "hoods" -- bravery through anonymity? The NRS has a bit of a history, too. But of course, that's not a "nation" -- it's a minority of the whole population. It's just that they are quite good at making their precsence felt.

I just blame Parents, Schools, Peer pressure, lack of discipline and trying to get out of a conquence for actions.

Lately there appears to more laws being tabled regarding Dogs than Children.

In my opinion people can get a licence to marry or civil union for the cost of the fee and no questions asked.

Children have more rights than responsibilties

I am also reasonably sure that Dr Spock owned up to being wrong long before he departed for parts not of this world.

Yeah, he did...but it was too late for all the kids he ruined.

545457 2007-04-30 07:09:00 So one guy did all this damage? Millions of parents all blindly, exactly, followed his instructions?

How is that he didn't use his amazing powers to become the ruler of the earth?

Isn't it delightful to have someone to blame? (Especially when he's dead).

545458 2007-04-30 10:00:00 Well...what is the popular theory of child-rearing there in NZ?

Whack or not?

Not talking beatings and mutilations...just a smack to the backside.

Family violence/ Child abuse is the cancer that eats Maori society, This is backed up by the tiny amount of incidents on record and the population of our jails. Making note of these facts is considered by some a racist act, Suggesting we end race based health initiatives is considered racist, suggesting we have race based law initiatives would get you hung, drawn and quatared.

The real racists in our country blame the people of a certain colour for their own ills and actions.

Today I was informed that someone reared on violence has their 8 week old child in hospital with shaken baby syndrome.

Whose to blame?

The entire line.

Where should the punishment be directed?

At the one with blood on their hands.

545459 2007-04-30 11:13:00 So now we have shirtbags these days who fear nothing!

Parents can't lay a finger, teachers can't teach and workers can't work cos we have little shi*s, 8 years old, running around at 10PM onwards running in front of cars in a busy shopping centre hell bent on that next adrenaline rush.

And don't get me started on damn graffiti. Cleaning that crap off is a birch to do. Seeing glass scratched with non readable "words", makes me want to beat those brats to a bloody pulp. Conviction or not.

So now whenever I see 007 graffiti'd everywhere, I just paste a picture of Sean Connery and his Walther PP7 next to the tags.

Yeah, never mind the fact that before the Engrish came along, that they were butchering each other and eating them for their "Mana"

I feel dumber for reading this:lol: Tariana must have a dim view of the world indeed . Oh well, nothing but the best thinkers at the top aye . . . :p

545461 2007-04-30 13:32:00 Smacking might be a pakeha thing, but child-beating is something mostly done by foreign cultures. At least, more-so than by europeans...
Seen Russell Peters (Famous Comedian) & his stand on child discipline?

545462 2007-04-30 19:43:00 Tariana may be wrong .. but she may also have validity in her claim (as we weren't around 200 years ago when us white fullas hit the shores we will never really know).
But case in point.. when a new concept hits an already established yet non-colonised culture, it usually ends up in overkill and affects that culture significantly. E.g. alcohol (ready to drink whiskey, beer etc), drugs were introed by european as was gambling (look what those 3 did to the american indian culture)

But thats a 'maybe' there is no proof then. To be in the public spotlight in this day and age and say things like that is pretty crap. Imagine if a whitey said anything about a Maori like that in public, they would string him up and hang him from the nearest tree.

I guess Im just sick of the whole lot, maybe time to stop reading newspapers andstart reading comics. I cant se the differance really...:p

545464 2007-05-01 02:13:00 Ok .... so what if we were able to travel back and find out that it was Prof. Plum, in the library, with the candle stick? ...... What the hell does it matter. :illogical Someone wants to take this and spin it into some racial bull**** and I guess thats exactly what it is turning out to be. Race means nothing to me, in the sense that I have blah blah of Scottish blood, blah blah of Irish blood, blah blah of Yugoslavian blood, and a cup full of Maori, blah bloody blah. Colonisation, people evolving religiously, mindfully, and in the way we live. I'm not saying that we evolved well im just saying it happens, it will happen, hundreds of years from now we are going to be blamed for ..... the net or communication through forums that made our youngsters turn green??? The fact is that a government cannot and should not have the power to tell us how to discipline our children. Smack or not. They have no right and if they do start to do this ...... what next? That people............ is the question, stop getting sidetracked from what really matters.
I dont care who started it. I want our children to feel safe mentally and physically and i also want our children to grow up and have respect of everyone and thing. I dont think letting them get the upper hand is going to help out psycologically. But I am sick to death of seeing young kids walking the streets swearing and yelling, pushing people around and trashing peoples property. The answer... I dont think it is telling parents to smack or not, possibly giving them more options with discipline outside of the house as well as in. A child who commits a crime should face a punishment worthy of said crime. Juvie??? Prison??? All I can say is ... thank god my child is a teen (he is now old enough to do the time if he thinks its worth it to do the crime) (i see all children, no matter the colour or how poor or rich they are, who think that this behavior is cool).
