| 742027 | 2009-01-26 01:38:00 | Hi all, We are currently considering rolling out Firefox at work (to one area only at the moment). Is there a way to make particular addons installed automatically? Or run a batch file that installs them? We don't want to sit there and install 4 addons x30 if possible. I thought of using the Default user profile in Windows (XP) - %appdata%\Mozilla\Firefox\profiles\blahblahblah.de fault and extracting a Firefox Profile folder that folder, so that if a user logs in, they have all the same addons, but the problem with this is this part of the path. C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\lxblwmsy.default Is there a way to make Firefox always use the same profile name - so we can just roll out a profile folder using a batch file? Thanks :waughh: |

| 742032 | 2009-01-26 03:20:00 | Thanks for your input guys - but I've decided to go with Portable Firefox instead :) Note if you do this, there are a zillion options you will need to change on each PC, otherwise it will perform rather badly and use a lot more bandwidth (among other things, disk cache is switched off by default). What method are you using to deploy software? SMS? Yes, it's quite possible to deploy with addons without needing to mess with individual user profiles. |

I'm planning to deploy it to about 20-30 users via copy/paste to their USB drives. What options would I need to change? I think the users are planning to run the software from their flash drives. |

| 742035 | 2009-01-26 09:46:00 | You'd need to create a custom install package for what I'm thinking of - I was assuming you were using some kind of enterprise deployment system like SMS. If they'll be running the software from a flash drive, don't change anything - portablefirefox is already optimised to minimise writes as much as possible, thus prolonging the life of the flash drive. Performance in anything disk-based is lousy compared to the standard version, but usable. Note that the portable version also has the overhead of decompressing UPX-packed executables and libraries. |
