| 742581 | 2009-01-28 01:48:00 | I have a Compaq desktop about 18 months old. It is running Vista. Recently my front USB and Card Reader stopped working and now the back USB ports no longer work. When I plug in a USB device, I get a ballon at bottom of Task bar that says my USB device is not recognised. Yet before the ports stopped working, everything is fine. I have reinstalled windows with no luck. Someone told me to format Harddrive so I did that and no luck. I have reinstalled all software that came with USB drivers and still no luck. Having done research on the internet, I think the fault could be in the motherboard. Is this right? Can someone please help me. Thanks, Marc |

Just re-read your post...interestingly enough a friend had a vista basic laptop that my corsair 8gb stick would work in, however it doesnt anymore, yet the port still functions for his device. The message is the same....not recognised! I am not sure, but believe usb device get id tags in the registry, so if it doesnt work on one port, it wont work on any.....Now you have said you formatted and re-installed, so that might upset this theory......do any other devices work on the ports? what does the card reader plug into.....the only other idea i could give you is to purchase a PCI expansion card with USB ports.... |
