546960 2007-05-05 03:32:00 Humans should definitely be exterminated, before they make the world uninhabitable for anything but cockraoches and bacteria.

That's possibly a bit radical Graham- however I have yet to see a well trained human that I would consider keeping around the house :)

I have been the 'owner' of a RottiX until recently that was better trained and far better mannered than the equivalent human offspring of today.

As for Pitbulls- neuter the owners the first time their dog shows agression... you'll have friendly compliant (but possibly overweight and lethargic) gang members who suddenly want to own oodles of Poodles.

546961 2007-05-05 05:04:00 Why not ban humans? They assault, kill, and otherwise abuse animals and fellow humans. Even worse, they don't rely on their own teeth; they use firearms, motorvehicles, bombs, napalm, and sharp objects.

Some of them even "smack" their children. "Animals", even Pit Bulls, don't do that.

Humans should definitely be exterminated, before they make the world uninhabitable for anything but cockraoches and bacteria.Reminds me of a quote ...

Agent Smith: I'd like to share a revelation that I've had during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you're not actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with the surrounding environment but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply and multiply until every natural resource is consumed and the only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You're a plague and we are the cure. Ok, so I REALLY liked the Matrix movie (but only the first one) :o

546963 2007-05-05 06:52:00 Hmm . . I'm a dog lover with kids, ex-cocker spaniel owner (licked people to death) but I've had bad experiences with dogs around my kids and my son is late teens and still wary of them . When in a pushchair my wife's sister's toy dog (nasty temperament) snapped in his face, just missing his nose .

The little sod died soon afterwards (dog not son) then when he was about 3-4 their over-exuberant cross-breed replacement was let into the house when we'd specifically asked for it to be kept out and it went for him . Parental instincts took over and I dived on it, picked it up and literally hurled it out the door .

Sister-in-law has still not forgiven me, however the dog survived and is still around, but so old and decrepit it couldn't even gum you, let alone bite .

Some dogs are bad, some owners are bad, and some share the honours equally .

Cheers

546964 2007-05-05 07:23:00 In general pitbulls are friendly, mischievous and sweet dog, provided they are trained properly.

Unfortunately, however, many pitbulls I see are owned by those you'd call' gangsters' or in my words 'irresponsible idiots'.

Pitbulls shouldn't be treated as an everyday-dog. They're not, as their aggressive tendencies are much higher than most other dogs. There should be a special law regarding owning pitbulls or pitbull-cross.

The problem with banning pitbulls is that it can eventually lead to the destruction of the breed - something I'd hate to happen - because I love pitbulls, as I had one when I was 5.

My pitbull was 10 years old at the time - bugger was so friendly and always hung around my friends and I without any aggression. Even when we kept poking him. That's the result of my family properly training the old bugger - we were responsible, smart pitbull owners.

On the contrary, the 'irresponsible idiots' I've been referring to are 'people' who have no idea how to train a pitbull - yet have one or more anyways - blatantly disregarding the proper methods to train the pitbull.

Or even worse, breed them for the notorious and repulsing so-called 'sport' of dog fighting. I hope that kind of people all go to hell.

546966 2007-05-05 09:47:00 Either the shetty or the GSD (Alsatian).

Right?

The dog was a Sable Collie.

I had taken my dog to my mate's place and I had leashed him to the clothesline pole. The dog was in full view of where I was sitting. After a while a child (about 7 or 8 ) comes over from next door and stars patting the Collie completely uninvited. I go to the child and tell him he should go home and could he please leave doggie alone. O.K. child goes. Comes back 1/2 hour later and starts patting Collie again. Again the child is told to go and does so.....

Later, child comes back. This time I noticed Rex showing teeth. Child once again goes after being told to.

Please note I did not once see the parents of this child. My mate had no children and the attraction for the child was the Collie as we used to have a TV series called "Lassie" at the time.

Sigh....... Later again..... Same child. Same dog. Child sits on dog. Dog snaps and makes small puncture wound on ear. This I think was due to dog getting rather annoyed at previous events regarding child visits. Child runs home to Mother screaming.

Now I get to see Mother. After some discussion there were no consequences to either myself or Rex (to give him his name).

Please note that Rex was not tied to the pole all this time. I had taken him for a walk twice and given him the attention any pet deserves.

I would dearly like to have another dog but I think I am wise enough not to. This because I live alone and I work anywhere between zero hours and 70 hours in any one week. I have two cats and a person will come in and feed them. In my mind it would not be fair on the dog I would get. It would also not be fair on my resident cats.

I really do not like the BAN word very much. It would not take long for our Parliament to take it up as LAW.

People disobey the LAW very often. Dogs & Bitches do not know the LAW.

Possibly teach the canine species to read perhaps? DO NOT BITE PEOPLE!!

Could make this post a lot longer but as I said earlier I am prepared to answer questions.

546967 2007-05-05 10:18:00 Just for your information - I believe you or Rex weren't at fault. However, was Rex in a close fenced property, and the brat simply kept coming and going?

Either way, the brat had it coming.

A banning of pitbull terriers and pitbull crosses would mean the banning of thousands of dogs across NZ. The one thing I've noticed about NZ dogs is that SO MANY of them have mastiff/pitbull/staffy in them. I believe even my dog has a quarter pitbull in him. And if that law was passed - my dog would be banned - effective when he dies, to be fair.

It would be sad. NZers have grown up with these dogs, am I not correct? Some may disagree with me, but it would certainly be sad to have the extinction of a very noble breed.

@Sweep - isn't a Shetland Sheepdog (Shetty) is basically a miniature Rough Collie? Thought they were meant to be super-friendly and patient towards children? What did ya feed your ol' Rex? :D

My problem was that I took Rex to a property I did not own in the first place. I looked after him.

I probably should have kicked the child in the rear end in the third place. Or gone next door and asked why mother was not in control of her child in the first place.

I would not BAN pitbulls as a BREED.

There comes a time where a dog has to be put down due to age, infirmaty or wandering sheep killer dog. No difference when it comes to "stray cats"
