547289	2007-05-21 13:38:00	Oh well the bill has passed, and in 5 weeks it will be law. Lets hope they stay on top of it unlike with the BSL (Breed Specific Law) or dog controlling laws. GOOD LUCK TO THE CHILDREN OF NZ.	Narmie (12196)

547292	2007-05-22 07:17:00	Team - we obviously have strongly differing opinions on this . However I'm sure we agree that abusing children is wrong . The problem is that NZ is a wealthy first world country with excellent food, housing, schools, healthcare etc etc . Yes I know, we ***** about these things but compared with most countries in the world, we are on the pigs back . Except . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . child abuse deaths . We kill our kids . And for every death, how many children just escape death and are merely damaged . Its no good . Why this happens isn't easy to figure out . However one strategy is to remove the exception in the law that allows parents to hit their children . It won't stop the really bad parents but slowly the message will filter through that giving kids the bash isn't accepted anymore . Heck, it is worth a try surely . It seems a very reasonable thing to do as part of trying to change attitudes . People won't stop smacking totally - that would be unrealistic . But those who do it too easily will hopefully become aware of other methods of discipline .	Winston001 (3612)
