546950 2007-05-04 22:03:00 There is also a case of a dog killing its owner............ not sure where. but she couldnt get away from it, and it followed her out of her house and i think she died in her back yard. :illogical

I as a child grew up on a farm and we had lots of dogs............. some city slickers moved to the area and bought their german shepard with them. it was as tall as me and when i met it, it was in guard mode..i didnt no they had a dog a all. it was an ex secuurity dog........ it attacked........ i managed to save myself, by getting into their house, only to find they thought it was funny and laughed. so i had the evil dog outside ready to kill me more outside........and them inside...........laughing at me. to this day i still feel the fear and humiliation of that attack...the pain.......... i cannot go up to a german shepard without fear in my heart.
Some one said that i should get over it, by getting one.............. and the stress that bought was horrendous. They still dont understand......... Ive had my own dogs, and my sister has plenty but i cannot be comfortable about having a german shephard.

546951 2007-05-04 22:29:00 I remember approx 15-20 years ago (in Palmy) walking past a dog that was lying on the footpath outside its house. It just lay there so I thought nothing of it. As soon as I passed, the thing reared up and bit me just below the a$$ on my leg and ran into a house on the property. Ripped jeans and drew blood. I informed my mother and we went to the cops about it. When they knocked on the door, the "only dog that lives on the property" was presented (with one eye and quite old and not the dog that bit me). So they got away scot free

I have no idea what the breed of dog was (looked like it may have had labrador-type features, with black coat, about lab size). Didnt appear to be pit or German Shepard in any way shape or form (but then with cross ya never know).

As an aside, I am currently seeking advise on what I should do re: safety of neighbourhood kids and our dog. If I have to put it down, I will be getting another dog, more than likely German Shepard (have always loved those dogs) which will be trained to protect my family and property

546952 2007-05-04 22:40:00 I personally think it's somewhere in between . Those who owns -overly aggressive pitbulls are irresponsible idiots . Their undoings cause their dogs to attack people, and euthanased .

That idiot who owned the pitbull that killed the woman recently had the dog chained up all day . Chaining up a dog deprives them of freedom and is a factor in promoting aggressiveness in dogs .

But by banning them, innocent people would not be victims of pitbull attacks . Although I still don't like the fact the irresponsible owners get away from their crimes with light repercussions compared to what the dog will have to pay - dying .

So what do you think?

We have had seven (7) pit bull attacks this week in our county alone, with two deaths . . . no telling how many all across the US .

Yes . . ban them as they don't really have much purpose any more . . . it is illegal to breed fighting dogs as well as fighting cocks too .

As far as owning a "nice, cute, cuddly" one . . . that MAY be the case, but it is the exception to the observed character of the breed .

I personally have never been bitten by one . . but a Rottweiler and a German Shepherd got me each once .

Owners . . . like ANY owner of a lethal weapon or a dangerous animal should be imprisoned for offenses by their animals .

Funny thing is that some of the same dangerous dogs are owned by illegal aliens from South America who said they need the protection from thieves and dangerous people in their neighborhoods . Go figger .

Faces eaten off, horrible disfigurements, missing hands and feet and two babies in cribs this week alone who suffered death by dog are not normal day-to-day gauntlets into which people should be exposed .

546954 2007-05-05 00:03:00 When I was a kid, it was the German Shepards and Rottweilers that did most of the biting, but not out right mauling to death like the fighting breeds do now. When I was 6 years old the neighbours German Shepard chased me down and attacked me. I was lucky that I was only bitten on the rump and the owners were there to pull the dog off me as it had me on the ground. The following week it attacked another kid. I was told it was sent off to a farm after that, but I suspect it was destroyed.

To this day I am very hesitant around certain dogs because of that unpredictability. Even a friends dog that jumps up at you when you visit makes me retreat right back.

beetleFarm dogs are a very different type of dog . They're more of a trained tool than a pet city dog . A farm dog knows its place in the world and knows what the boundaries are (figurative and literal) .

Had it been me in your position beetle, assuming you were in the country proper, I would have gotten my revenge with a . 22 when the GS 'strayed' onto your farm and was 'witnessed' worrying your sheep/cattle/goats/corn/wheat (:D) whatever . . .

Wouldn't be too many farmers that would side with the new city-slicker neighbours if you had stuck to that story . . . . ;)

I agree . . . but I also think the Pits weren't as popular them . . . they were still considered killers in a dog fight contest and hadn't really drifted to the homes of too many people .

OK . . I know that the "Our Gang" kids mascot, "Petey" was a pit . . but still they were kinda rare in the every day setting .

546957 2007-05-05 02:25:00 Unfortunately pities are a gang favourite, and dog control people are too scared to grab them. Gangs are too intimidating. Cowards. rob_on_guitar (4196)
546958 2007-05-05 02:37:00 Why not ban humans? They assault, kill, and otherwise abuse animals and fellow humans. Even worse, they don't rely on their own teeth; they use firearms, motorvehicles, bombs, napalm, and sharp objects.

Some of them even "smack" their children. "Animals", even Pit Bulls, don't do that.

Humans should definitely be exterminated, before they make the world uninhabitable for anything but cockraoches and bacteria.

I have said that earlier, but it wasn't as long as yours to make an impact.

Cheers :)
