546940 2007-05-04 11:33:00 If a dog is roaming free and has no collar,no id chip, not registered etc how do you proof ownership.

Scenario:
Dog Control Officer:Madam/Sir where here about your dog attacking the mail person -(correct pc talk).

Subject:What dog bay,I got me no dog man.

Dog Control Officer:A dog has been identified as belonging to this property.

Subject:Ah you talking about a dog that hangs around my place.

Subject:Cause I don't own me no dog mister.

Dog Control Officer:You have been seen feeding it and giving it water Madam/Sir,and the dog responding to your commands.

Subject:It be cruel to animals not to feed and water it,I seen that on tv man,and I say come here if you want food /water you ugly mutt and it comes.I dont know why ell it just does.I just felt sorry for it, so gave it some food and water,I bloody saved its life bro!!
Do I get a reward for saving a animals life,cause I should I reckon!!

Dog Control Officer:We are going to have to confiscate the dog sir.

Subject:Thats ok it ain't mine like I been telling you, sheese man you need to listen up bro!!

(Two weeks later subject gets another dog and it starts all over again with another dog hanging around the property and roaming free).:2cents:
In that case, the person should have handed the 'roaming' dog to the correct hands - the pound. As evil as it may seem, it saves the dog from lack of real family, and it has a fair chance of being adopted.

You may need to re-read the scenario.:)
The scenario was that the subject did not "own" the dog legally but had it roaming free and did not accept any ownership in any form.(in reality it was hers/his).
(It's a stray man,it ain't mine, bro,it just hangs out at my pad alot).

The subject was a scum bag and lied and cheated.;)

546943 2007-05-04 12:11:00 That's why I put roaming in apostrophe marks, indicating the scumbag indeed lied and cheated.

Isn't it the supposed law that a roaming, unregistered and no-collar dog be taken by the authority, in which case the authority must be contacted? And that could be used against the scumbag, as he didn't call the authority. Instead, he 'felt sorry' for it 'and fed it, out of sympathy'. *wink, wink*

546944 2007-05-04 14:50:00 Ban Pit Bulls and any other menacing dog. The breed is irrelevant, it's the attitude and actions of both dog and owner.

It's quite simple, you do not put the rights of an animal above that of humans, especially those least able to protect themselves from aggressive animals, and especially in urban areas and the animal is a, so called, pet.

If you've ever been charged by one of these things, you'll understand. If you haven't, you should be able to empathise. If you can't do either, you need a lobotomy to protect both yourself and society in general.

If there really was a political will to get this done, it would be done. Of course there will be stragglers and the odd underground presence, but they won't be wandering the streets and you won't be wondering whether your child will be the next one to be chewed by one of these beasts.

Yeah back in the good old days when I was a kid, with no bills to pay I did the milk run and had to have a good wacking stick with me against German Shephards,to protect myself- I was only a Primary School kid and those dogs were big and dangerous.(hey the cops use them so I was **** scared of them).

This owner got me to pat his dog so it would know me...guess what it bit my hand and I was bleeding and the owner says to me "he hasn't done that before you must have done something"
"Yes sir,I did what you told me to do and it bit me"

He walked off and said I think its because your on his territory, went inside his house and closed the door, lucky for me he took the dog inside with him,and I carried on with my milk run with a bleeding hand rapped in my singlet.

546947 2007-05-04 16:47:00 That idiot who owned the pitbull that killed the woman recently had the dog chained up all day. Chaining up a dog deprives them of freedom and is a factor in promoting aggressiveness in dogs.
What a load of tuti. I would not like you to own a dog because you don't understand them. The chaining of a dog has absolutely nothing to do with their aggessiveness. You only need to watch that English program where that women sorts out dogs that are out of control to realise that most of those owners should never have a dog in the first place.

......ask any dog trainer you can find. Chaining dogs up can be a factor in aggravating them.

And for your information, I have a dog. He's a mutt, with the high possibility of having a quarter pitbull, but guess what? He's always friendly. So far in his 2.6 year life, he's only been chained for a total of approximately 20 minutes.

546949 2007-05-04 21:33:00 I remember reading a case in America where a lady was killed by a dog. The owner got sent to jail, the judge ruled having that particular dog (cant remember what type) let loose is like leaving a gun lying around.

Apparently the owner had tied weights around the dog and other stuff to 'toughen' it up, but once the dog broke loose, it went straight for this lady.

Ill see if I can find a link.
