744135 2009-02-02 02:45:00 My PC has some issues

once i finally got it running almost 2 years ago it was a speed demon
AMD athlon dual core +4600
GeForce 7600gt
250gig ATA hd
dvd rom
asus mobo

was a beast, ran like the clappers. but this december just gone I took it to a LAN party at my friends house (ok a hotal room at the pub down the road) and all of a sudden it's taking 10 minutes to boot up and to load COD4 maps and also my etwork connection stopped. Brought a new $50 newwork card, no dice, then downloaded a 1.5 meg file on my friends computer, great it works again, there goes my new HD money. anyway the major problem of super slow speeds still remains. windows takes 10 minutes to load, desktop takes annother 5, everything loads sluggishly but once loaded runs perfectly (I'm now also running an 8800gt as the 7600gt blew a capasitor a few months ago without even being over clocked) things bog down so much at times that media player and other sounds become slowed and distorted and crackle, and a final problem is that occasionaly when trying to access my esktop via minimizing windows it will load half the icons then windows will freeze completely for 3 - 6 minutes while i can still alt-tab between already open windows and use them as if nothing is wrong.

:help: !!!!!

this has been agonising and I am losing hours of time through it. Virus scans are crazily slow running at 6- 20 files a second, and with over 700 000 files to scan it can take a while. when my computer first bogged down virus scans have been clean but since then a few nasties have come up without being able to sort them out as everything is running so achingly slow.

any ideas?

I've been thinking that my Harddrive is spent, but i have no money for even a cheap new one to backup and re format or anything...

744136 2009-02-02 02:53:00 Welcome to PF1 - sounds like you may have some bugs in the system - download hijackThis (www.trendsecure.com) - run it and select save a log file, once complete copy/paste back the complete log here - someone will tell you what to do.

you may want to download from my sig, Malwarebytes, spyware terminator, install, run in full scan mode, as well as Trojan Remover (http://www.simplysup.com/).

IF its XP: click on start/run, type in eventvwr <Press Enter> open the Log files, look at both system and Application, look to see if there are any repeatable errors, if there are copy paste back here COMPLETELY what they say

744139 2009-02-02 03:33:00 If Bitdefender is the firewall as well, uninstall it or Zonealarm, you should only have 1 firewall

Uninstall Nvidia firewall in add/remove programs - its called ForceWare Network Access Manager

Tick these then tick fix checked

744140 2009-02-02 03:41:00 only put bitdefender and zone alarm on today, and only running zone alarm as firewall

Lupy501 (14571)
744141 2009-02-02 03:42:00 So whats bitdefender then? Just the antivirus??

If it is, uninstall it or AVG

744142 2009-02-02 03:43:00 well... once i can see my destop again... *waits* Lupy501 (14571)
744143 2009-02-02 03:44:00 yea think i might kill bitdeffender, bit of hassle, Lupy501 (14571)
744144 2009-02-02 04:09:00 Bitdefender's pretty memory hungry IIRC, so uninstalling it and putting avast! or AVG would be better. Blam (54)
