743682 2009-01-31 12:35:00 Hi, I am looking for a software that does not use a file format . Ie . , it copies the exact files as it is to the destination . I also want incremental backups for changes of files so I don't need to backup the whole thing and overwrite it .

Any recommendations?
I have Nero Backup and Cyberlink Backup (via DVDRW and ASUS mobo) but I think they all use their own formats .

Cheers .

743687 2009-02-01 05:41:00 Syncback is awesome thanks, I created 2 for now and maybe the 3rd profile later on.

I rather not use DOS command lines :D

743688 2009-02-01 11:08:00 Yes, Syncback is pretty cool. I just started using the freeware version and it's not bad at all (especially for the price :) ). BTW, Nero BackItUp (which I have been using for some time) uses the standard zip format. If you rename the .nco file to .nco.zip you can open it like any zip file. The only trouble is you lose the original filename/date information as this is contained in the .nbi file. Rod J (451)

RAID 1?

743690 2009-02-02 07:06:00 RAID won't work, cos I have multiple HDDs and external.

For me the weakness for RAID is if I accidently delete a picture or edit it wrong and saved it .. that would get replicated on the RAID.

Well I guess RAID may work, but then I need 4 HDDs cos I have 2 HDDs - software and pictures. I also have the 3rd externally.

Sounds like you need a backup strategy more than a single tool .

You need an incremental backup tool that saves often-modified files, say, every 10 minutes . This can be done with "rsync-like" tools . However, to work out incremental changes to files, a file system must be present . I am not aware of such a tool that does incremental copies on raw images .

For files that are not modified often, you could just burn them to DVD .

No backup solution can completely save you from accidental user-deletion mistakes, because it would need to run continuously (not possible really) and cannot tell if user-deletion was accidental or not .
