2009-01-31 09:27:00 | I need to uninstall Norton and then download Avast anti virus and also Comodo firewall. Is the best/safest way to uninstall first then go to the other sites and download & install the packages in turn or should I download them first, uninstall Norton then start up the new software? | Pensioner (14457) | |
2009-01-31 09:36:00 | Just uninstall norton with the norton removal tool, then install Avast! and Comodo. If you're really scared you'll get a virus during the process, just disconnect after downloading the setup files and scan when you're done. Blam

2009-02-01 10:27:00 | OK I've done all that and done gruelling scans but on start up today there is a message 'Comodo Application Agent is not running' and there is a no entry red stamp on the logo in the task bar. I only installed the Firewall not the whole AV package as I have Avast for that. Does the message mean I do not have Comodo firewall installed properly? Could it conflict with Windows firewall which is at present On? Or is there somewhere I have to 'turn on' Comodo (I did register with them and sumbitted my Key no.)

2009-02-01 11:10:00 | Have a read of this (forums.comodo.com not_running-t16841.0.html) Are you running any any malware/spyware programs in the background like Winpatrol and maybe teatimer (part of spybot)?? If you are, disable them Looks like youre not the only one, seeing this error Or do what a guy did in the 2nd thread above 1. Run services.msc 2. Right click on "COMODO Firewall Pro Helper Service" and choose properties 3. Select "logon" tab and enable the service for the hardware profile 4. Select the general tab and start the service 5. Go to directory "C:\program files\COMODO\Firewall" and run cmdagent.exe 6. Close CFP on tray and start it again Or if that doesnt work, try this which is the last post above you have to start in safe mode ........go to program files / comodo / (of course ) lol ......click security..... (navigate all the "object " idiocy they put in there ) .....add "system" to the "user" list .....give "system" "full control" of comodo..........works like a charm.....;-) It could be remnants of nortons thats stuffing it up

However after closing the Comodo main window a message comes up on the barred icon in taskbar that the firewall is still running! Confusing or what? Perhaps I should just stick to Windows FW - any thoughts? |
