743344 2009-01-30 09:10:00 Hi Folks,

Grabbed a Windows 7 Beta build 7000 iso for my HP laptop. Everything looks okay and device manager doesnt report any unknown devices. Installed all the necessary drivers for the laptop from the HP website.

Only 1 driver couldnt install as it said it was specifically for Vista.

The only thing that puzzles me is that my Windows Vista key wasnt able to be entered so i continued the installation without it. I know i copied everything correctly and tried twice and it said invalid key. Granted i had to lift the laptop to look at the key underneath but i know i didnt make any mistakes.

Now that i have completed the installation.. where do i enter the key?

Thanks in advance!

You cant use the Vista key. When I downloaded Windows7 I was given a key before the download.

I dont think there would be a problem going through the motions to get the key as from memory it is early on in the process.

Thanks for that Sam.Theres about a dozen or so public keys for the Beta - maybe a few more , PM coming your way  So far installed W7 on 3 Machines all with the same key - no worries at all.

743349 2009-01-30 11:12:00 Ahhhh I was going to try this tommorow.....so what does one need ot do to get the key and will it give you a set period of time to enter it? RusEvo (3572)
743350 2009-01-30 19:14:00 It gives you 30 days to enter the key, just like with Vista and XP. Microsoft gives you a key just before you download it. :) pcuser42 (130)
743351 2009-01-31 10:31:00 Windows 7 is up and running and it wasnt that hard. The hard part is getting things to work.

My Powercinema 5 wont recognise my Hauppagge HVR-4000 tuner card.

Trackmania game hangs when started.

I have tried these in the compatability mode but am unsure what the next step is

By the way I know its Beta software and I should have expected problems and been up to the task of fixing them

743352 2009-01-31 10:33:00 Don't use Power Cinema 5, try MediaPortal, its better IMHO.

743353 2009-01-31 11:24:00 Well in Mediaportal when I used XP it wouldnt recognise my DVB-T card so I couldnt use it......Im not sure about Windows 7....not everything seems to work.

Worth a try
