550518 2007-05-17 02:40:00 In a couple of weeks' time I'm going to be terrorising Tauranga for a few days and this time will have the freedom of my own wheels. Has anyone got ideas for special places to visit in that area that I may not have been before? FoxyMX (5)
550519 2007-05-17 03:45:00 Sounds like a lost cause Foxy. My missus lived down there for a few years and apart from walking around the Mount she couldn't think of anything special. Basically she referred to the town as a retirement home at this time of the year! Greg (193)
550520 2007-05-17 04:01:00 Gees, I was going to say "Walk around the Mount" but got beaten to it.

We did that around 5 years ago on a beautiful day and it was really worth the effort. Want to do it again. My Sis and husband have retired to Papamoa and we have been there 4 or 5 times in the past 18 months and each time we were there it was pouring down.

Don't know if it was our bad Karma or it is like that most of the time.

Long like Sunny Napier.

550521 2007-05-17 04:31:00 Use your wheels to get to the airport and get the first flight out to ANYWHERE.

3/4 of the population are even older and sillier than me.

550522 2007-05-17 04:40:00 The Mount and the....................................Mount.
There are 1 or 2 Wineries in the area, if you are into that sort of thing.
You could check out some rest homes for your future. Maybe you will get a discount. :D

In Papamoa especially!!!!!

Seriously, they reckon if everyone over the age of 65 died tonight it would slash the population by half - at least.

550524 2007-05-17 04:54:00 You could go downtown and watch the mobility scooter races held every Tuesday afternoon down by the waterfront. To increase your enjoyment you could have throw a set of false teeth on the track and sit back and watch the melee unfold sam m (517)

Yeah, well my fossils live in Papamoa so I'll be hanging around there a bit .

Will be staying a stone's throw from the Mount, which I've done several times, including UP to the top so will be doing it again at least once, maybe twice on this trip, weather permitting .

There are lots of little places that will be nice to check out after a few years' absence but it would be good to know which places are the locals' favourites as I'm not going to be there all that long .

I could always hit the shops of course but since I've got wheels I want to make full use of them if the weather is good .

550527 2007-05-17 06:16:00 Maybe you can get the natives embroiled in a heated debate on how to pronounce the name of the place. :p SurferJoe46 (51)
