550393 2007-05-16 18:10:00 A lawsuit claims that though Dell "gave the impression" of 24×7 service, consumers faced “nightmarish obstacles” in receiving it . Why is this NOT a surprise? :waughh:

I don't know about Dell . . . but can ANY conversation with a Bengali (?) or Paki who almost speaks Engrish as a second language be considered "supportive"? :stare:

550395 2007-05-17 00:38:00 Just out of curiosity . Do any of the Help Desks use Technicians who answer questions, solve problems from their own knowledge & not from a Computer Screen & Fault processing program??

I cannot believe that that a person with English as a second language is going to fully understand the various accents from around the World . Not meaning to be derogatory here .

It IS all done that way for "Cheapness" isn't it .

I remember when the UK 1901 Census first came out . Computer processing done in India . I believe it was taken off line till all the mistakes were corrected . Now I am the first to say that there are very intelligent people in India, but, I would have thought that one would need residents of the UK to understand the Geography of the country .

In the same way that one would expect to talk to NZrs on an NZ help Desk, & have hands on experience . PJ :2cents:

I am pretty sure that British Airways do all of their flight bookings via their Mumbai help desk. It is purely a "cost saving" approach. The reason that Americans have such a big problem with dealing people from other countries with non American accents is that those people are taking jobs that theoretically could be done by Americans - for a bit more pay. It is also the reason that Apple is being so successful opening it's own stores with excellent instore customer support.

550399 2007-05-17 06:50:00 Only 146 cmplaints? For a company which sells that many computers, many of them to computer-illiterate buyers, that's a magificently low number of complaints. ;)

Does any company with a call centre pay enough to get anyone with high technical skills to talk to those who call the centre? I'm sure they can find more satisfying ways to use their skills.

The data base is all you can expect.

146 complaints is not too bad considering that is "just" the number of people who know about the article:p

Just wait till the word gets around a bit further....
Imagine how much they could get sued if a few million people added their names to the list of plaintiffs:eek:
