| 548904 | 2007-05-11 04:47:00 | Joe . Is Oklahoma a Windy State? Is there enough wind to support a Wind Farm to supply electricity? Perhaps this Renewable source would keep the envirogreens happy . PJ The only wind in Oklahoma is from politicians, and they tend to scorch plants and animals . Now, Chicago, on the other hand . . . is VERY windy (The Windy City . . . not to be confused with San Francisco on a calm day when a logging chain will tumble across the street in one of their gentle breezes) . Whilst risking setting myself up for a dis . . . I guess you can say that we have wind farms here in the Palm Springs area . . . in what we call "Whitewater" . The wind there is pretty constant and can get up to a full gale sometimes . Seasonally about September and again in February . . . and that seems to be counter indicative of the weather-nouveau theories . . . we get the "Devil Winds" or "Santanas" that can raise a ruckus with the pyromaniacs not knowing where to start the next immolation . So . . . if wind harvesting is your game and you are looking for places to set new windmills . . . I suggest right here in Lamb Canyon where tonight, the wind is a whistlin' down the pike at a ferocious rate . BULLETIN: Catalina Island (the one that is "26 Miles Across The Sea" in the song of fame), is currently on fire . Over 500 acres are gone; the town of Avalon MIGHT be gone by now . . it is just after sunset here in California . Residents are huddled on the beach trying to avoid being killed by the fire and smoke . The logistics of removing people from the island is challenging, to say the least . Hundreds of personal craft are sailing to help evacuate people and animals off the island . Nighttime launches are leaving Dana Point, Long Beach and Huntington Harbor with rescue personnel and just average citizens attempting to get friends and/or relatives off the island before it's too late . We are lingering in single-digit humidity too . . . watch us burn next! |

| 548907 | 2007-05-11 05:45:00 | Obviously what is needed in the US is a collection of portable thermal power stations. When a city is burning, just drop in a power station or two and generate electricity from it. When an energy shortage looms (again) the kindly police forces can start a riot and up will go another city. | Graham L (2) | ||
