743740 2009-01-31 22:39:00 While using my old PC, out of the blue the screen graphics turned to crap.
I wasn't doing anything at the time to trigger this (watching an online pool game)
Left pc alone for 10 minutes to see if it would correct itself but no change so I hit the reset button.
On startup it is now going straight into a screen with text heading "MSI Link to the future"
From there is start up screen with options of,
Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Last Good Known........that worked
Start Windows normally

Unfortunately there is no keyboard or mouse control available to select any of these options and when the time runs out the machine just sits on that page.

I was able to get into bios and found that boot options had been reset back to floppie (From CD previously) so I changed ths back to CD first but not sure what is the next step in getting past the MSI Error on start up.

Could this be a flat battery? (I have had no warnings of this)

PC is an old AMD 1.8, 768 ram
Running XP Home

Any help is appreciated Thanks

743741 2009-01-31 22:59:00 It doesnt tell you when the CMOS battery goes flat. It just goes flat

According to this, replacing the battery may fix it (www.spywareinfoforum.com)

Can you tell me how to positively identify my battery and where they may be purchased from please.

743743 2009-01-31 23:07:00 Well its the only round battery in the case.

Its probably a CR2032 battery. Places like foodtown (and jewelery stores) / may / should stock them

743744 2009-01-31 23:22:00 Yep, It is CR2032 and I put a new one in my door chime a month ago lol
Door Chimes now history as PC's more important:)
Will changing the battery change any settings or create problems at all in the computer?
Anything I need to know before fitting it?
Thanks Much appreciated:)

743745 2009-01-31 23:29:00 Everything in the bios will be reset when you take the battery out, you'll need to set stuff up like the time etc.

Shouldn't cause any problems

743746 2009-02-01 06:19:00 Ended up havin to get a brand new battery as the spare one made no difference.
Since fitting the new battery and setting time/date and cd as first boot option in bios, I have managed to get into windows but the MSI Page is still coming up before the Boot from CD page?

I tried loading an Acronis backup earlier that I know is good but even though Acronis reported it as being successfully loaded, I get a black/blank screen on reboot?....

Have just finished doing a normal install of XP Home and this appears good apart from the MSI Page is still coming up first?
Running out of options here, is there something else in bios that I missed resetting?

It's becoming a long day:)

743747 2009-02-01 06:34:00 Some place in the BIOS settings will be the option to disable that MSI Page on startup. Depending on the BIOS will depend where it is located. It will say something along the lines of Show page on startup. wainuitech (129)
743748 2009-02-01 06:35:00 Look in the BIOS and see if the MSI thing is an option. If it is disable it Speedy Gonzales (78)
743749 2009-02-01 07:13:00 Yep! Found it under Advanced, called full page logo. Thank you both:)
Okay that is working okay now but for some reason my restored acronis system backups will not boot up.
Can bios settings affect this?
