745015 2009-02-05 00:46:00 I've been a customer with Ihug (now Vodafone) since 2002, and in that time I've had two new broadband connections with them (due to moving flats so often). Recently I moved somewhere that already had Xtra, so I reduced my Ihug account down to their $4.95 'keep your Ihug email address' plan.

But it's time to move flats again, so I called Telecom and got the phone connected (because I prefer Telecom for phone) and then called Vodafone to get the broadband put on (because I prefer their Internet).

However, they have a new policy: You can't sign up for broadband unless you ALSO sign up for phone at the same time.

It's mental... All I want is broadband. But without shifting my phone to Vodafone, I can't get any broadband. I already give them thousands of dollars a year through my cellphone, not to mention a lot of prior account fees paid in the past seven years.

Come on Vodafone, sort yourselves out. You should have a way to work around this 'policy'. I'm sure that a smaller, NZ-focused company would have a 'sneaky wink wink method' to go around the rules and give the customer what they actually want... Not what you think we need.

745017 2009-02-05 01:15:00 Probably work out cheaper for you if its all with one supplier. Driftwood (5551)

What if I only want fixed broadband from Vodafone?

At the moment, if you only want fixed Vodafone home broadband, you need to have a phone line as well - either supplied by Telecom (or a reseller of Telecom home phone) or preferably, Vodafone home phone.

That's why all our home broadband plans come combined with Vodafone home phone and calling.

We're also looking at offering naked broadband services in the next few months, so keep an eye out for those plans if you're interested in broadband only.

745019 2009-02-05 03:51:00 So if I switched to Vodafone, would I still be paying Telecom for the monthly line rental?
I only just re-signed to Telecom a few hours ago, so don't want to have to pay a setup fee for zero day's service!

745020 2009-02-05 04:05:00 If you dont get naked DSL, yup you probably will have to pay for your phone line thru Telecom Speedy Gonzales (78)
745021 2009-02-05 04:53:00 I think I'm going to switch to Orcon (despite some negatives reviews on here). Not just because they were voted #1 in the Feb PCWorld, but because their deal seems almost too good to be true: No minimum term, no connection fee, and $54 for 15gb broadband. And I can keep my tolls with Telecom! Aside from the week-long wait for a connection, it seems pretty sweet. KerryDP (13174)

That link does not help . What page number out of 200+?

I just changed Ihug/Vodafone plans and had no choice but to have phone switched, not happy but did it .

Service keeps dropping connection lately not sure why . If I get a slow download it is fine, I d/l'd SP2 for WinXP for a client yesterday and it dropped several times, but when it was going it was quite fast . Seems to drop only when I get a fast D/L .

I have been with IHUG Since shortly after they began in 1994, and had minimal problems until Vodafone took over . A lot of dropped DSL service since then .
