550848 2007-05-18 07:04:00 OK here's the scenario (long post). Last Fri we hear an almighty bang and the power goes off. Transformer is on the pole outside our rural property. I look out and see a vehicle next to the power pole and see and hear another vehicle driving off making a grinding noise. Put the lantern on the car, see a body slumped over the wheel and what looks like a power line over the front of the vehicle. My first thought was a hit and run so get my partner to phone the cops. Go down to the berm and sure enough there are 2 distinct sets of tyre marks on the berm. Get to the vehicle and both are obviously pissed out of their brains-been to a ***** says the driver-please don't call the cops-too late says I this looks like a very serious acident. No mention from either about the "other" vehicle. One look at the womans face and I think- hello- there has been some aggro at the *****! Try to get the brain dead b*****s away from the scene before the cops arrive (yes I have had to do this before on more than one occasion as they usually arrive banging on the front door at some ungodly hour demanding help!). Bloke gets a bit aggro about phoning the cops, tries it on a number of times so I tap him on the conk and drop him hoping he will sober up and get his bloody legs moving. Meanwhile his sister has got out requesting I don't conk him again so try to get the buggers up the driveway and out of site. She falls over and while I'm trying to get her up the brain dead plonker tries to have another go-lantern is failing and can hear the sirens so threaten him with the lantern and to get his bloody legs moving-b****r too late!
Now here's where it get's a trifle interesting. I could plainly see the tyre marks of 2 vehicles on the berm, one where the Pajero had hit the power pole and the other set and grind marks on the road heading away. The cops never picked up on this and I said nothing as I guessed this was some sort of family feud which I had no intention of getting involved with! I gave as little detail to the cops as I could as these two were arguing as to who would put the hand up as the driver-jeez Wayne! After the cops left and I charged up the lantern I took a walk and found where the other car had left tyre marks on both sides of the berm and grind marks on the tarmac. Next morning we followed the track of the "other" vehicle up to the corner-stuffed left front tyre-driving on the rim, no driver and two cops at the scene. Young ***** guy arrives the next morning to tow the Pajero away and I get the fingers!!
I don't know what you will all make of this but this I will no longer attempt to help any of these brain dead buggers out of the crap again. Just as a rider I used to help out in L.Hutt doing graphics of accident scenes part time so I knew what I was looking for. The local cops were only looking for an easy nick-and to make matters worse they had been tipped off beforehand that one or both of the cars were coming through the town.
From now on our place is locked down as tight as a ducks a*** and any bang we here "ve no nossing"! If these clowns want to drive pissed out of their brains then we are out of the loop entirely! If they kill or injure themselves I have no broblem with passing by on the other side, it's when they injure someone else, possibly a family member I just get this urge to make sure the b*****s are no longer able to create the problem again!
Ethnicity does not come into this little story as those I have helped in the past were of all races. It would be interesting to read your comments.
Regards Gordon.

550849 2007-05-18 07:24:00 Who is brain dead ?

They are.

I would say the two cars were racing each other or it was a case of road rage
between the two cars.

550850 2007-05-18 07:33:00 Always give the cops ALL the details that you know relating to an incident you have witnessed no matter how useless you think the cops might be. They can only be as good as the info they get from the general public (all forensics aside). If the general public doesn't help the cops when asked it just makes the cops job a lot harder and also helps to assist crime and unlawful behaviour in your part of the woods.

As for the occupants of the two vehicles- pity they didn't do a proper job when they crashed.

550851 2007-05-18 07:41:00 You've been living dangerously if you have often helped people to "get away from the scene before the cops arrive". There's an offence of being an accessory after the fact (www.netlaw.co.nz/crime.cfm?PageID=320).

It's treated seriously.

You're mad.
So they hit a pole. Too bad if they had hit some innocent bystrander or people in another car.

Why the hell would you want to help ****s like that get away with it?

Maybe next time it will be a member of your family that gets hurt. Think about that.

Remember a while back on the news there was a car veered off the road and went into a kids bedroom in a house at Otaki? The house was rented by a mate of mine. ON the news he said he was pissed about it coz the dip****s were more worried about themselves and their car, not the fact they almost killed 2 innocent kids. Same thing here, they don't care you tried to help them. Will they care if they kill you or a family member? Doubtful

Time to get the pissheads off the road and inside (or preferably shot for their second offense)

Graham L- I well understand the law however where I live there are a high number of gang members and you never quite know just who you are dealing with. Retaliation is quite common as I have already experienced. This was for not helping some brain dead clowns whose car ended up in my top paddock completely wrecked. With wrecked suspension, roof down to the seats and no front or back windows they thought I could somehow spirit it back on to the road and they could drive away!! We had months of "things" happening as a result. As an example a farmer friend just up the road who ploughed up a wacky baccy patch had his hay barn and his forest block burned down, he was also threatened at gunpoint. I don't assist these b****s out of the goodness of my heart or to flout the law but merely to ensure my family remain safe. Hope this clarifies the matter.

550856 2007-05-19 02:55:00 Although I have never had any dealings with the criminal underworld or gang fraternity of NZ and I hope I never do, and as much as it would scare the perverbial c**p out of me to do so I would suggest that if you don't stand up for your self, no one else will.
Things such as digital or video cameras for recording situations and evidence, noting of times and places that things have happened, a large guard dog as a deterrent with appropriate warning signs posted, setting up DIY video security around your house. Maintain a strong and dependable neighbourhood watch support group in your area. These are valuable and highly recommended by the police. If the crims can't prosper they can't succeed.

You could move but that would mean that the criminal fraternity would win so that is not an option.

The only reason gangs survive in NZ is because we allow them to by not speaking out when they commit crimes against property or people or family. If the police are given enough information about a crime they can apprehend the people. If that doesn't work you could contact your local MP.

550857 2007-05-19 03:57:00 All points about security duly noted winmacguy. Unfortunately on an invalids benefit some of the security measures are well beyond my reach. As for a neighberhood watch that is not a goer as we are pretty isolated here with my nearest neighbour 1/4 mile away. I am looking at installing a camera pointing down the driveway but whether it will be effective or not is another matter as our drivewy is about 100 metres from the actual house. There is also no street lighting so it's doubtful if a normal camera would work at night. Infra-red cameras would be the ideal but I could not afford one.
I still have two aces up my sleeve which they don't know I know and that should be enough of a deterrent if they come calling. I don't think they will cause any trouble as I have put the word around town regarding the 2 aces and word spreads pretty fast here. It's probably a good job my missus won't allow a rifle in the house! Thanks for your input.
Regards Gordon.
