So I take it it is $4000 for a machine for FS9.... don't forget to get your girlfriend something nice while your at it. ;)

Girlfriend? I should be so lucky.

I've been married for fifty years.

551097 2007-05-21 23:43:00 It's cheaper than buying a cessna I reckon! ;)
The graphics in the Cessna are hard to beat, and the force feedback is really comprehensive. Medicals are a shade cheaper in FS9

551099 2007-05-22 04:53:00 Well thermal monitors in Chip? What chip if I may ask?
If you overclock then voltage normally does have to be increased.
If it increased too much then components can fry or try to cope.

And JJJJJ had problems with a dual core trying to run FS9.

FS9 runs on my rig but I do not have 300 Gigs of addons.

I use FS9 on:-

AMD 4400+
A8N Asus SLI premium
2x200 Seagate SATA drives.
7900 PCI-E Video
19 " Phillips 190B LCD.
4 Gigs RAM.

I made all this run under Win XP 64 Pro after getting some drivers.
This is why I questioned Jacks' choice of O/S

What say we let Jack spend the money on what he wants?

I guess you actually run the CPU you recommend. If not then why not?

Sweep, all cpu's now throttle down if hot, so its pretty hard to cook them, and most cpu voltages have abit of headroom to clock without having to increase the voltages......

As for running the cpu a recommend, I would love too, if the wife would relax my spending abit. JJJJJ had spent $1800 for the X6800, I was simply stating that he has dual core anyway, if the FS9 game runs on the dual core it would run on the quad core and the quad core was half the price, which he could then have used for the GTX card instead of the GTS

Well I reckon I have had my moneys worth out of it. Computer is now running FSX about 12 hours a day.
It is now overclocked to 3.6. That's about a 20% o'clock with stock cooling. Since I bought it I have had the case open exactly once. And that was just to clean the fans etc.

Since I have discovered how to make single core programs utalise multicore processers I have processer utalising 100% capacity. My "flight" drive holds over 100 gigs of associated files.

The 8800GTS vid card has proved to be fully adequate.

FSX uses about 80% of my ram and no problems

Belkin router has not missed a beat. I can fly in formation with up to a dozen others and see them all. Which is more than those with lesser cpu's can do.

So I am more than happy and reckon I have had good value for my money.

Someone on this forum posted that an X6800 can not be o/clocked to 3.6 without additional cooling. Well I have proved him wrong. In fact I have had it running at 3.8, but it started to get a bit hot, so I settled for 3.6 All cpu probes stay in the high 40's. The vid card is a bit high, in the high 70's, but it seems happy there.

So now I am planning on getting a quad core and a 1600 motherboard, But $2400 for a cpu is scarieng me.

You are insane OC in a C2D much past 3gig on a stock cooler, its no wonder you were having problems a while back and have had to focus on case cooling.

Luckily its winter now lol

What have you made use dual cores? And how?

To the same woman? If so, WOW. You are a legend.!!

I've been married twice, and in a committed long-term relationship once. None have lasted remotely near that sort of time. :( Dunno what I been doing wrong - perhaps they just get the 7 year itch and need to move on, or I need to choose more carefully next time.

Hey, Natalia... I hear you calling! :D

Why's it insane? I have my E6750 on 3.2GHz, stock cooling. Had it at 3.6GHz, but was unstable without a voltage increment and figured out I'm happy with 3.2GHz.
