YMMV. Its not like oc'ing an old athlon, thermal monitors in the chip stop it from being damaged and unless you are up'ing the voltage, you arent going to cook the cpu!. I think JJJJJ made a mistake with that x6800 cpu purchase....4 cores for 1/2 the price...its a no brainer! |

I think JJJJJ made a mistake with that x6800 cpu purchase....4 cores for 1/2 the price...its a no brainer! Well thermal monitors in Chip? What chip if I may ask? If you overclock then voltage normally does have to be increased. If it increased too much then components can fry or try to cope. And JJJJJ had problems with a dual core trying to run FS9. FS9 runs on my rig but I do not have 300 Gigs of addons. I use FS9 on:- AMD 4400+ A8N Asus SLI premium 2x200 Seagate SATA drives. 7900 PCI-E Video 19 " Phillips 190B LCD. 4 Gigs RAM. I made all this run under Win XP 64 Pro after getting some drivers. This is why I questioned Jacks' choice of O/S What say we let Jack spend the money on what he wants? I guess you actually run the CPU you recommend. If not then why not? |

| 551088 | 2007-05-21 18:44:00 | I deliberately did not order a quad. I am not prepared to risk another stuff up. I am still dubious about dual. But now there is no single core higher than what I already have. As I have already stated on this forum fs9 is a single core program. Several people, including me, have had trouble with x2 amd cpu's. For some reason the Intel duo does not seem to give the same trouble. Price is immaterial. I want what is best for my needs. With the X pcu I will , at worst, be as good as I am now. If I can force other programs and addons to use the second core I will be laughing. If the whole thing is no good , well just another experience. Update on delivery. Got a phone call from Ascent, assembly yesterday. "All the parts are here, but we need a case to put them in." Turns out the girl who took my order overlooked ordering the case. It was on top of my written order. But it was not on the invoice which I didn't read thoroughly. So another day wasted. And another $400 to the bill. vistaoz.org |

| 551092 | 2007-05-21 20:51:00 | Will you mainly be running a game or some other program? MS Flight Simulator 2004. aka fs9. will occupy 95% of comp. time |

I would have but hadn't been following the whole conversation. :) So I take it it is $4000 for a machine for FS9.... don't forget to get your girlfriend something nice while your at it. ;) |
