551077 2007-05-20 07:15:00 Ordered this a couple of days ago. Ascent are building it for me.
Any comments?

Total: $5,388.47

Yes a couple, Fans and cooling? I like some nice Glacialtech 120 silent ones. Noctua are also suppose to be pretty good.

Also I quesiton your choice of CPU! you could take a huge amount off the price. By dropping to a Intel6420 sticking a Thermalright 120 Extreme on it and firing it up to around 3.4GHZ. Save about $1500 and just as fast if not faster for most tasks.

551078 2007-05-20 12:37:00 That is funny? I think it is even more amusing that at least two people this week have been unable to install drivers for their sATA hard drives without going to a lot of trouble because their machines don't have a floppy drive. It is totally crazy that floppy drives are almost obsolete yet sATA drive manufacturers still expect their drivers to be installed from a floppy disk.

It isn't SATA drive manufacturers that expect that - it is Microsoft. A lot of things have changed since Windows XP was released, but they have stuck with the same installer. There isn't much point to them updating it as the people that would integrate it into their XP CD aren't the people who need it most.

551081 2007-05-20 22:59:00 Wow, you can get a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 2.4GHz, LGA775, quad core for $880, thats 1/2 the price of the Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme X6800, 2.93GHz, LGA775.
500Mhz difference that you could OC even with the stock HSF...

551082 2007-05-21 01:09:00 I have a dream of someday winning a really fully equipped Ford or Mercedes Benz...

E500

Harmon/Kardon Logic 7 system
18" AMG wheels
Thermotronic climate air
Corteccia leather designo / red/brown cinnamora interior
4-matic
Keyless-Go....

E63AMG probably overkill....put the $$$ saved towards the GL450 for fishing/skiing weekends.

Not that I've thought about this much!

Its nothing to do with Microsoft! The only case where you will need a floppy disk to install SATA drivers is where the controller doesn't have native SATA support. This is generally the case only on older motherboards where the SATA controller wasn't integrated into the chipset but instead a third party chip was used that communicated via the PCI bus. Any modern motherboard should have native SATA support out of the box, both Intel and nVidia's chipset have had native SATA support for several generations.

If Microsoft was to incorporate drivers for every third party SATA or IDE controller then the size of Windows would be even bigger and just give you windows haters another reason to *****.

Possibly. I prefer to not overclock. At all.

First I know how to do it but would prefer to not void a warranty.

Which is why I avoid buying some stuff on Trademe.

YMMV.

I hope it comes with two ignition keys so I can dual start it?
Two batteries in case one goes flat?
I want two wheel and four wheel drive!
Change tyres on the go whilst driving in case I decide to off road when I started out to buy some cat food.
I also forgot floats on the outside should I decide to visit an offshore Island and for this reason the drive shaft should be connected to a propellor also on the fly.
Computers and operating systems are "intuative" so I am told.
The GPS will be able to navigate me to any part of the world even if I do not know how to spell or insert coodinates.
Very much tongue in cheek here.
