551637 2007-05-22 01:34:00 more than likely it will need a cam but i suspect that wont happen until next year when freeview goes to HD on the terrestrial service.

551638 2007-05-22 02:04:00 So the HD feed will be on the terrestrial service before the satellite service?

Kind of like a beta test before the rest of us Kiwi's can see what all the huff is about.

551639 2007-05-22 02:18:00 Freeview are saying march for HD but it won't be on all channels because of the high cost of HD. Hitech (9024)
551640 2007-05-22 06:50:00 if sky and freeview need a disk each and then we get a few more players......

Ever so slightly excessive, but whatever keeps him happy.

High Definition will not be on the satellite service.
I dont think it's possible to run all channels on high def at once as they share bandwidth and high definition hogs about 12-24mbits/s I think.

551643 2007-05-23 10:54:00 High Def is possible on satellite as sky are going to launch it next year, it will no doubt cost sky a few million to do it but i would say not many channels will be in HD due to the very high cost and the amount of bandwidth it takes up. Hitech (9024)

Say 1 movie, 2 sport, NatGeo and 20 pay per view..

551645 2007-05-27 23:23:00 Good news for sky tv subscribers wanting freeview.

In the link im about to post theirs a paragraph that says sky tv subscribers are able to watch the freeview channels on skys decoders however there has been a delay, So don't all rush out and buy a freeview kit yet for those of you wanting freeview channels as well as the v8 supercar channel.

I knew sky had an ace up their sleeve.

Probably because they started rolling out an upgrade and it was cutting people off until they manually entered a setting change.

Sky have more than an ace up their sleeve they've just raised their prices :groan:
