| 551471 | 2007-05-21 07:27:00 | Somehow this deserves a point by point reply . . . Just to play the devil's advocate here for a moment: What if people become depressed over your "research project" and commit suicide because they never knew how bad the world is? A little extreeeeeme, but not to be totally discounted . We are planning to take the proper precautions about the website etc . We will put a warning . Because we only say the two words in our forum posts, we didnt see it necessacary to say that . There are people with the "Pollyanna" syndrome who never even think about such things as "Bad News", Death and disfigurement" or "Negative self-realization" . How're you gonna protect them your airing this little experiment? Hate to say it . . but that last bit didnt make sense . . . . (to me at least) It takes a village idiot mentality to not see that SOMEONE IS OFFENDED BY THE VERY EXISTENCE OF CERTAIN CONDITIONS" and you cannot do anything about it . Sometimes mockery and derision are the ways people handle these disabilities . Not fair, but it's the truth . Denial in the form of humor is a safety valve for those people . If you want those of us who may chide you and your attempt for a merit badge in some secondary school to embrace your project, then you also have to be as politically correct as you desire of me . Note my age in my profile . . . (yes it said 17, don't ask me why) If you want to talk about festering pustules and form a support group, then let's go for it as I am not offended . . . but that's just MY take on a subject to which I can communicate without revulsion . I am not without compassion for people so estranged from reality, it's just that there is too much emphasis on the "rights" of minorities and "wrongs" of the majority . Not being a majority player myself, I can commiserate with your situation, but I don't think much if any good will come from turning a technical site as F1 is into a forum for the use of "social enlightenment of and for self abuse", no matter in what form it exists . Past religious discussions on F1 that went on until people got their noses bloodied are evidence enough that these things are sometimes better off left off camera . You have completely missed the point again . This is NOT about forming a support group or anything . It's a project to gain knowlegde and inform people about this . If people need support, thats what counsellors, and professionals are for . We don't want to try and support people . Is that clear enough? |

This is no high school project. We are doing this properly. As far as we are aware, nothing like this has been done before. People of all ages are involved in this. No mention of a high school project was made at any time as far as im aware? |

| 551473 | 2007-05-21 07:36:00 | Sorry joe, but this has me wondering: "What if people become depressed over your "research project" and commit suicide because they never knew how bad the world is? A little extreeeeeme, but not to be totally discounted." If people top themselves "because" of the knowledge that people aren't all happy (to oversimplify) then how will they be expected to get past the six oclock news with it's utter focus on the worst macarbe storys about our local happenings of the day? Dealing with stuff in a realistic manner is an unlikely path to suicide. |

| 551474 | 2007-05-21 07:44:00 | OK . . . . . . . . . . . . me lost as to why you called SJ . . . . . . :waughh: And as far as the suicide idea . . . its the inner workings of the mind that effects people . . . . . not the world and its news, disasters etc . A persons mind has to be suffering badly, for either of those to happen . . . . . . . . and not every body understands what a person is going thro to do these things to themselves . . . . or get that low . Self harm or depression is a very solitary issue . . . well thats my understanding . . . . That is just my understanding and thinking . . . . . . and this was not said to hurt any one . Life is not always what you presume . . . . . . its the underlying things that you dont see that make people tick . . . . . . . sometimes that is good, and sometimes it is bad . . its how you cope personally with it that a lot of people dont see . Good luck with you research . :illogical beetle |

| 551475 | 2007-05-21 07:44:00 | My last answer to you and your Quixote-like attempts to run a shill game . If you are so desirous of performing this little experiment and seek the affections of those who might be swayed by calling this a "knowledge and information" gambit, so be it . I see through your facade of taking this out of the closet, if you don't mind MY innuendo . Just the presence of people here with these sorts of needs to be fulfilled for some merit badge achievement of yours, is nothing less than prima facia proof that you have some sort of self aggrandized purpose and ax to grind with me for calling your ploy to light . Taken on face values, I seem shrill and perhaps . . . what's that word? . . . a "pedantic" . . . (not coined by me) . . . . . . and rather stiff necked . Nothing could be more removed from the truth . I wallow in things socially redeeming . I embrace good camaraderie and fellowship . I like fine wines and single-malted Scotch . I emote for the downtrodden and ne'er-do-wells of the earth . However, when I want to bask in those pools, I go to places where I find them and don't try to create an encampment in or on the tableau of an established site that has little or nothing to do with your force-feeding Dudley-Do-Right, Mary-Poppins joust . Finis . Done . Shalom . Ciao . I have the option of blocking you anyway . <click> |

I'm starting to think that closing this thread might be a good idea . . |

| 551479 | 2007-05-21 08:15:00 | . . . . . . . . . It seems it was a mistake to post here . I'm starting to think that closing this thread might be a good idea . . I think the thread might be a little more on topic now . Perhaps what has happened here is good for a little research on attitiudes towards this sort of subject? I have to admit . . . i just had to go back to the original post, the one that was somehow forgotten in the fuss . So is there a direct link to the survey? What's the deal? |

| 551480 | 2007-05-21 08:25:00 | Thanks for the questions, and bringing it back on topic As you may have seen, one of the requests for help was a survey writing type or person. the survey hasnt been written yet, that is one of the things that still has to be done. This is just an idea, with a plan at the moment. |
