551059 2007-05-19 10:52:00 What did you get for old rig,JJ?

Haven't advertised it yet. Going to put a $1000 reserve on it and see what happens.

551060 2007-05-19 10:53:00 Is that two hard drives for that price?
Yes

551061 2007-05-19 11:09:00 Just for fun I priced it up.
Identical.
Mine: $4942.00 retail.

Yeah, it hurts seeing people do that when you or I could sell it to them for $500 less and still make a nice profit.

I would have got the QX6700, it's only a little bit slower (in clock speed) than the Q6800 you're buying, but it's pretty much two of them. It won't be TOO long till four cores makes a big difference.

I would have got four 250GB drives and RAIDed them, for a total cost of under $400 (so ..... probably about $470 from Ascent).

I would have got an 8800GTX 768MB, you could easily make up the few hundred difference somewhere else.

Anyone care to tell me what's special about that DVD burner, that makes it cost well over 3 times as much as the 18X ones I use?

And the biggest thing of all is I would DEFINITELY have gotten more memory. Although I tend to use cheapish (Apacer) DDR2-800 memory, so 4GB would have cost about $320. If I was buying Corsair DDR2-1000 I might not want to get four gigs .... :p

Anyway, it doesn't matter, you have bought a BEAST of a computer and should really enjoy it!

551062 2007-05-19 19:38:00 Not sure where the $4,900 came from.
My original invoice from Ascent with an E6700 cpu was $2938.14.

I changed the cpu to the Exteme add $1824.66 less a credit of $606 for the 6700
Total cost $4156.732

Thanks for your comments George

Quad core seriously considered.
The comp will spend 75% of it's life playing fs9. This does not recognise more than single core. And as I had bad experiences with AMD dual core was not going to risk another stuff up. My current pcu is a 4000+ and I'm likely to have trouble matching this even with dual core.

Four HDD. No need One disk exclusively for Flight. The other ,partitioned, will contain the OS and all other stuff. Raid , not needed.
Currently I have close to 300 gigs of flight sim stuff and am determined to keep it all together on one drive.

Ram. Don't think I need more than 2 gigs. But more can be added if necessary

I'm pleased you did not say I should have got Visa.:p

!

At least its a decent shop, with quality components.
What hurts is people who spend too much on rubbish from bad shops.

But they must make a hell of a profit, I know their buy price is a lot better than mine.

I agree with all of that, why he spent $1800 on a dual core?, should of saved the money for the GTX or SLI GTS!...especially since he has just about the faster RAM on the planet!?.

Still should have some silkly smooth game play!...just a shame about the money waste.
