O/T alert
Oh no you don't - let the (Insert religious leader here) take any blame for the weather when it turns crook. ;) They want the credit for the good bits, so - -
It is a DSE weather station of senior years that has an amazing appetite (and need) for batteries even when operating from the mains. It is currently away proving that a friend's location has weather that is remarkably different to the forecast. 12 days of corresponding weather in 14 months - far better than either of us thought it would be.
Can anybody explain by the way, why the measured rainfall at 150mm above a lawn is heavier than that measured 4M above the same lawn?
The serial port involved is currently unemployed.

551445 2007-05-23 06:19:00 The serial port is useless. So is the parallel port on my computer. pcuser42 (130)
551446 2007-05-23 06:29:00 The serial and parallel ports are useful. pcuserwinxp may not have any use for them.
...why the measured rainfall at 150mm above a lawn is heavier than that measured 4M above the same lawn?... Official weather reporting stations have to take great care in locating raingauges. The local wind patterns can make a big difference to the amount of rain which ends up in the funnel. Other factors come into it. On station was having great problems with discrepancies in the transpiro-evaporation measurements. (That's done with an open topped tank in which the level of the water varies according to how much rain falls and how much evaporates). The problem was .... rabbits. They were thirsty.

The parallel printer is on another PC, and I don't have a serial device. All my devices are either VGA, USB, Ethernet or audio.
