744396 2009-02-03 03:26:00 you can try running system file checker - start / run type in sfc /scannow you will need your XP CD when asked for.

looking at your log - Windows is WAY out of date.

You need to update the service packs.

Regarding the Log file -- Any idea who this is :

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: Domain = internal.global.org.nz

O17 - HKLM\Software\..\Telephony: DomainName = internal.global.org.nz

O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: Domain = internal.global.org.nz

O17 - HKLM\System\CS2\Services\Tcpip\Parameters: Domain = internal.global.org.nz

If they are not your Own IP , then tick them in Hijackthis and remove - update the service packs, install IE7.

744397 2009-02-03 03:33:00 Dont you have IT people?

Get rid of registry first aid, its crap. Use glary utilities or ccleaner

I was going to say its an addon but its IE 6. Its probably google toolbar

You can tick these then tick fix checked

Close browsers

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\jusched.exe"

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [swg] C:\Program Files\Google\GoogleToolbarNotifier\GoogleToolbarNo tifier.exe

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Find Fast.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\FINDFAST.EXE

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

O4 - Global Startup: Office Startup.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA.EXE

How many versions of Office are installed?

O4 - Global Startup: WinZip Quick Pick.lnk = C:\Program Files\WinZip\WZQKPICK.EXE

I wouldnt be surprised if Symantec is screwing things up

What a very good answer. Naturally using an alternative browser will fix IE6.

I do wonder what a broswer is though.
And of course Firefox is without problems of any kind you think.

What do you mean by reliable and compatible?

People can use whatever browser they want. However your suggestion to use FireFox does not FIX the IE6 problem does it!

Agree. Not all of us have the necessary skills to hunt down rogue browser plugins.I usually have several browsers. Ofcourse if one uses an obscure browser and only allows that through the firewall if an app calls for IE to contact dodgydomain.com then you can say'no thanks'.

Well ive been using firefox for about 3 years, and i havent had a single problem, ie ive found displayes some pages oddly and can get so full of microsoft clutter that it doesnt seem like the ideal browser at all. the likes of firefox, opera etc all seem to display pages quicker as well

im not going to argue with you

744404 2009-02-03 06:39:00 cheers guys i'll try the stuff you mentioned.
we have an IT guy.but he's in wellington (were in auckland). and he doesnt do much lol.
also the pc i use doesnt really get used for much. its hooked up to the main network and to a label printer and a small inkjet, and thats basically all it gets used for.
Your right, it only has XP SP1 which is a pain in the arse coz i cant even get the latest IE or Firefox with it.

I only really use it on my lunch break, so I dont really want to go and tell them to update it just so i can surf the net better :P

even downloading HiJack This i was skeptical about it haha oh well
