551546 2007-05-20 22:30:00 Of the Core 2 Duo CPU's featured here (www.pricespy.co.nz) which d'ya reckon is the best value for money right now?

At this stage I considering putting it onto either an Intel D975XBXLKR Intel 975X ATX or an equivalent Asustek (www.pricespy.co.nz) .

Thx.

551547 2007-05-20 22:54:00 Intel Core 2 Duo E4300, 1.8GHz for $182, should get to 2.93Ghz without a sweat, maybe 3.4Ghz+ with exotic cooling SolMiester (139)
551548 2007-05-20 23:03:00 I've just done a bit more looking into it. I don't o/c. But I'm beginning to think either the E4400, 2GHz or E6420, 2.13GHz. Greg (193)

I'd go for the E6420. It's a new model and has 4MB cache while the E4400 is only 2MB (probably doesn't make much difference but I like the bigger number  )

551550 2007-05-21 04:41:00 Yeah, I'd go for E6420 too, or if I a bit more money, the E6600. I hope if I get an E6600 that I can bump it up to an E6700. qazwsxokmijn (102)
551551 2007-05-21 06:38:00 6420 is the best as long as you team it up with a good motherboard for overclocking. A simple FSB change in the bios will get most to run at 3 ghz on stock no other changes needed! apsattv (7406)

I take it that you answered your own question then. You are the one paying for the combination.

Thx.Chill out and wait for the cool deal coming soon in July. BIG Intel price cut that's all. :groan: NZ people should stay awake with the prices and news and just news in NZ. Joining the gamers, and overclockers forums help me a lot.

If you don't mind about MOBO chipset the Intel 965 is the best deal. And go for Gigabyte brand if you think Asus is too expensive.

551554 2007-05-21 20:45:00 So what's coming out in July again? qazwsxokmijn (102)
551555 2007-05-21 20:57:00 "Bang for buck" is immaterial.
You should buy the cpu that meets your needs.

If you can't afford that you buy the one you can afford.
