745425 2009-02-06 03:58:00 Hey all,

So we're looking to protect a laptop from certain things, mainly pr0n / proxy / tasteless websites.

Question:
OpenDNS works great and blocks stuff automatically (Ive got the DHCP server telling the clients to use it), but it doesnt prevent the likes of Google Image search if you turn off SafeSearch.

NetNanny seems to prevent that, but it just prevents *all* of Google Images :(

Suggestions on blocking pr0n?

745430 2009-02-06 09:02:00 If you are using IE you can go into Internet Options / Content Tab / Content advisor, and set it to block a varying amount of subjects - it works most of the time, and can be password protected, that way if a site is blocked you can enter a password to over ride the settings. wainuitech (129)
745431 2009-02-06 12:42:00 Nah the kids using Firefox or Chrome ...

Safesquid looks interesting .. that + OpenDNS perhaps?

That said, whats to stop from using another search engine like Ask Jeeves or Live?

745433 2009-02-07 09:10:00 Hi All,

I am a safesquid user, and thought I should tell you this -
Safesquid comes with keyword filtering rules for blocking p0rnographic websites. So when users search for p0rn content on a search engine, and the resulting page contains p0rn related material, the resulting page itself gets blocked. So it does not matter what search engine is used.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!
