745283 2009-02-05 17:20:00 I have Win XP Pro with SP3 installed and a Sony DVD RW 830A writer. I installed an old program called Shanghai Moments. It ran well but when I listed a DVD I found that the files with an .IFO extention had been changed from a IFO type file to a SHGM type of file. E.g.
Name ----------------- Type
VIDEO_TS.BUP-------- BUP File
VIDEO_TS.IFO ------- SHGM_file
VIDEO_TS.VOB ------- VOB File
VTS_01_0.BUP ------- BUP File
VTS_01_0.IFO ------- SHGM_file
VTS_01_0.VOB ------- VOB File etc.

DVDs and CDs play ok.

When I found the changes I immediately uninstalled Shanghai Moments and performed a System Restore but nothing changed.
I can no longer use Audiograbber 1.83 as when it starts to rip a music CD it stalls and then closes down. AG worked ok before the install of Shang Mo.

Has this mongrel prog. altered my DVD ROM and/or has it altered Win XP?

Any help would be appreciated.
TIA.

745284 2009-02-05 20:00:00 Change it under filetypes in my computer

It probably changed the filetype, so when you play a DVD, its looking for the game, which isnt there

Install the free version of Glary utilities (http://www.glaryutilities.com/)

Then click on scan for issues, then click on repair problems

745285 2009-02-09 16:52:00 Hi Speedy
Thanks for the quick response. I've been away for the weekend.
I have looked for the IFO files in ControlPanel\Folder Options\File Types.
The IFO file extender is associated with the correct type.
I can't find the SHGM type of file here so I can't delete it.

DVDs and CDs play fine but when I use Audiograbber 1.83 to rip a CD it starts to rip the first track, it faulters and then reboots the computer.
I have redownloaded Audiograbber 1.83 and installed it but still the same thing happens.
I have tested AG with a CD I ripped successfully with AG months ago but AG clapped out this time.

I have just dl Glary Utilities but I'm unsure of using it.

I'm wondering if that mongrel prog has changed something in the DVD writer!!

I presume that Glary Utilities just scans and repairs things in Windows. What if the DVD writer has been affected?

Any thoughts?

TIA

745286 2009-02-09 17:24:00 Me Again Speedy
I have installed and run Glary Utilities and it has fixed my IFO file problem and Audiograbber 1.83 is working correctly again.

Thanks a heap

The DVD writer is fine.

I had never used a register cleaner before and I was very apprehensive.
Why do you recommend this one?

PC World are advertising a lot of caution with using register cleaners.

Once again thanks

745287 2009-02-09 17:43:00 You do need to be very careful with the registry, the only cleaner really recommended on here is ccleaner other ones can do more harm than good. gary67 (56)
745288 2009-02-09 22:16:00 Use well known ones, such as ccleaner, or the mentioned glary utilities.

Programs like Regcure cause problems
