2007-05-24 09:01:00 | Beware! The Warehouse will not give you a refund for DVD recorders and probably other electronic equipment such as TV's and stereos. Here is my story: Yesterday I bought a Transonic DVD Recorder 80 Gb hard drive model TC2058DR and before the actual purchase I checked with the service desk. "Yes, no problem" I was told. "You can get a refund if you find the features are lacking, as long as it has the packaging, is not damaged and is in a saleable condition." This was the same as I was told last month at the same store by a different service desk staff member. :annoyed: So after just one day I bring the DVD recorder back for a refund, saying that I found it had no G-Code timer function. The manager was called over. "No, our policy is not to give a refund but what I can do for you is give you a credit (to spend in the Warehouse)." the manager told me, politely. My polite reply was OK, if you will not give me a refund after I was assured by two of your service desk staff, I will then contact your head office and complain. At this point the manager reconsidered and politely gave a refund. There you have it. Beware! The next time I will use my cellphone and record the service desk staff explaining my right for a refund, in case of difficulties. And soon I will double check DSE and Noel Leeming's policies. See my thread on the Transonic DVD recorder here: pressf1.pcworld.co.nz If anyone can find the 'fine print' of The Warehouse guarantee, post it here.

If I need G-code, I would look at the display item, or at least on the box for what is inside it. Or I would ask a "sales consultant". Anyone who grabs a box and presents it at the checkout, with the idea: "It's a DVD player > It will have all the features that any DVD player can have > It must have all those features, because I am buying it on the basis of price, and it's the cheapest" doesn't really inspire much compassion in me. Perhaps I am unkind. ;) It's only "unfit for purpose" if you have explicitly told the shop before the sale was completed that, say, G-code, was a purpose you require. The term is "of the essence" , I think. Record that, rather than verbal assurances of a "right of return". "'I've changed my mind" isn't a very good reason to annul a sale. Very few retailers allow that ... it's too easily abused. |

2007-05-24 09:19:00 | "2. Money Back Guarantee Our money back guarantee is a key aspect of our business. If a customer has proof that they purchased the goods from our stores within the last 12-months, and providing we cannot repair or replace the item, they may obtain a refund. A refund will be made in the same tender as the original purchase. Please note that purchases made by cheque need 7 days to clear before we can refund and as mentioned above, that product returned must be in resalable condition unless faulty or otherwise deficient - the money back guarantee does not apply to CDs DVDs, software, except where the product is deemed faulty." You might have to get Winston to comment. The Money Back Guarantee might be for faulty items rather than change of mind cases. This might be your case 1. Exchange If a product is unsatisfactory, we can offer to exchange it for another one (i.e. a different size or colour etc) or another product of the same value. Generally proof of purchase is required in order to get an exchange, although we may waive this requirement if we believe we have sold the product. Please note, as mentioned above, products returned or exchanged must be in a resalable condition with packaging intact and all labels etc returned with the item, also exhanges are not available on CDs DVDs, software, except where the product is deemed faulty.

2007-05-24 09:21:00 | As a former staff member (I did a few months there last year) the official policy is that so long as the product is returned in saleable condition WITH the original packaging AND receipt (proof of purchase), and the product is NOT damaged, then you are entitled to a refund. Good on you for having a shot at the manager, he/she knew if it went higher, they would have been proved wrong. I do wonder if he was trying to help keep sales figures up to target by making you purchase instore

2007-05-24 10:02:00 | OK, I have had a issue with this before... I like to go Mountain biking and being a student last year money was tight... so I finally saved enough for a bike thats all good. I saw one at The Warehouse so I brought it. I was really happy with the feel of the bike and the handling of it, that was all good, I was riding down the road and shifted into first gear and all of a sudden the rear wheel locks up... I am thinking what the heck... I look down and the chain had got caught between the rim and cogs and had ripped the rear gear shifter 180° around the wheel (and this is 1/4 inch steel!) with less than 20kph on the speedo :groan: So I took it back down and they said that they can't refund because it was my fault, so I took it down to the local Pack and Pedal and they backed me up saying that improper factory tuning of the gears was the cause. The Warehouse didn't like that, so they said they will send it back to the manufacturer to see whos fault it was and all this time the Warehouse manager was accusing me of being too rough and dropping it. This was not the case... anyway the manufacturer said that it was their fault and I was able to get a full refund. So with no bike, but my money back I went home and continued to save and ended up with a decent quality bike that cost more than double, but is well worth it :D. I guess my little rant is really about buying crap quality stuff... if you do, expect it to break :badpc:

2007-05-24 13:24:00 | I know a few senior supervisors and managers at The Warehouse. They give cash refunds at their discretion. Refunds does not always mean cash - a credit note may be as far as they go. They are under no obligation of the law to provide a cash refund... and as said before, if a replacement (or repair) was available, that would come first. | techie (7177) | |
2007-05-24 17:55:00 | CGA...........if the product isn't fit for the purpose it's designed for/promoted as then it has to be either replaced/repaired or the money refunded. | drcspy (146) | |
