As for example Television is shortened to TV. Telephone is shortened to Phone but should be 'phone. "Graphic User Interface" = GUI. So you go buy a computer for a reason. Or reasons. You get advice. You discuss your needs with a computer person I would hope. Then your needs change. That is where the excrement hits a rotating object with blades. |

A distro is as said a distribution of someones concept of a good collection of applications and the operating system for them to run on. An example is "Mepis", which is a complete operating system and usually comes with open office, firefox, amarok (music player plus), and a pile of other programs. Another is "Debian", which has various releases, the latest one being "etch" One of the reasons distro is such a popular phrase is that very rarely do you get just the basic OS. |

The only thing I wasn't sure of was what "etch" was, I thought it was a typo or something . |
