746344 2009-02-09 21:31:00 Hi Folks

Daughter has asked for advice about the "best" pdf reader and flashplayer. Presently she doen't have either installed - recent reformat of hdd. She is using XP Home, Firefox, Thunderbird, MS Office etc. I'm not sure what she means by the "best" but I believe her requirements are fairly basic. My guess would be free, functional, fast and not bloatware. Opinions welcomed. :D
Thanks in advance :thanks

746345 2009-02-09 21:40:00 Foxit is a good PDF reader, way less bloated then Adobe. Just use adobe flash player. stormdragon (6013)

+1

Foxit has started installing links to eBay for some reason :(

Still think it's the best PDF reader though

746347 2009-02-09 22:51:00 I use foxit on my notebook. PDF opens properly, instead of wait-and-open.... heni72847 (1166)
746348 2009-02-10 04:10:00 I STRONGLY RECOMMEND FOXIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

... but I'm not sure about Flash Players. Probably Adobe has the only choice there since swf is not particularly an "open" standard.

Are you sure about flash player? Because there's this only one choice, as far as I know. Talking about FLV players... you might have a few choices there......

You ever compared sizes? I forget exactly - something like 7Mb versus 43Mb.

And have you ever wondered why a program that displays pdf files needs to have a new version every 5 minutes??

Foxit forever.
