746111 2009-02-09 01:34:00 I am going to install Win 7 64 bit to replace XP.

I am planning on inserting the 64 bit disk and then rebooting. Then letting it reformat C: and then install.

Anything wrong with that?

Anything else I should do or know aboutt?

746112 2009-02-09 01:36:00 Well if its the beta, I wouldnt use it as the main OS

Should be fine if the mobo is 64 bit

Hopefully it installs all of the drivers during the install

746113 2009-02-09 01:39:00 Yeah not to mention you'll potentially have to format and do a clean install around June / August, depending on when Win7 expires ...
Remember, you're using a Beta OS, problems will happen (Quite possibly more-so than a normal windows release)

746114 2009-02-09 01:39:00 I reckon you should just dual boot. At Windows 7 is still in beta...and only lasts until August....

Or..if you're just trying it out and your pc is fast enough you could run it as a Virtual Machine

746115 2009-02-09 01:43:00 I'm well aware of the problems.
I ran win 7 32 bit for a week and survived.

I want the 64 bit and I just want to make sure I do it properly. Haven't used 64 before

746116 2009-02-09 02:01:00 I'd wait for the real release if I were you.
But if you must. What about drivers?? Thought of that?

746117 2009-02-09 02:07:00 Whats stopping you from dual booting?

Someday windows7 is going to throw up some errors...and you won't have any OS to use.....so dual booting is good..

746118 2009-02-09 02:52:00 We ran Win7 32 & 64 bit successfully on one test machine (old sempron), apart from looking different from vista all the drivers were ok
If you want to give it a crack just do it, put the disk and and reboot like you asked, it should install just like a 32 bit system if your hardware is 64 bit compatible
We couldnt get Daemon tools working to try some games out but

746119 2009-02-09 03:10:00 All Vista drivers work in Win7 I'm told. jwil1 (65)

Dual Booting. That's getting out of my comfort zone.

If I leave XP/32 on C: and install 7/64 on D: What else do I have to do?

I once had a dual boot with win 98 and linux that asked me what one I wanted to load from.

Will these two work the same way?
