| 555016 | 2007-06-01 07:36:00 | For those that are interested, the Fedora Project (http://fedoraproject.org/) has now released Fedora 7. The sharp eyed will notice the "Core" has been dropped from the name of Fedora 7 (Moonshine) as from this release onwards. Fedora 7 Release Summary (fedoraproject.org) - some key points: In this release, the performance of yum, Pirut, and Pup has been significantly improved. (That was waaay over due :rolleyes:) In this release, all hard disk partitions follow a /dev/sd* naming convention due to a new libata driver interface in the kernel. The Anaconda installer eases the transition for release upgrades. (Something to keep in mind when helping Fedora 7+ users, hdx now becomes sdx) This release provides a number of firmware packages for enhanced wireless networking. NetworkManager presents a graphical interface that allows users to quickly switch between wireless and wired networks for increased mobility. NetworkManager is installed by default in both GNOME and KDE Live CDs. Plus lots of geeky stuff for the more "I'm pass the basics" folks. Many people are probably unaware that Fedora offers installable LiveCDs in both Gnome and KDE flavours now. Everything fedora needs to run comes on it's install CD. Just like your computer had no drivers for XP or Vista until you installed them. You just need to install Fedora on a seperate HDD or partition to any of your other programmes or they will be over written. |
