2007-05-30 07:10:00 | Your point is? Any other power Co. would do exactly the same thing. No money, no power. Although why she didn't go next door and plug her machine there and then contact the media eludes me.

2007-05-30 08:45:00 | According to Mercury, they were unable to contact the family during the 7 week period the bill was overdue, and they were not notified there was someone living in the house who was reliant on the power being on (apparently there is a list for people who have life-support and therefore the power stay on) No money, no contact, no power. Mercury did no wrong. Unfortunately the family is paying for THEIR OWN mistake. Not the best thing to happen, but they can't go blaming Mercury

2007-05-30 08:48:00 | We were on Genesis, changed to Empower and our power bill went down $40 a month instantly. Almost the same charges per kwh, figure that 1 out. | pine-o-cleen (2955) | |

2007-05-30 09:46:00 | So the family knew for 7 weeks that unless they payed up, this was going to happen. They had 3 hours to take her to the hospital but waited until it was to late unless it takes 3 hours for an ambulance to reach Otahuhu in which case it case it could be the most dangerous place in NZ to live in. The family saw the opportunity to blame the "greedy opportunistic" SOE and boy, did the media jump on it especially John Campbell. We live in a capitalist society, you get what you pay for = you dont pay, you get nothing. If this does not suit your needs, North Korea which incidentally doesnt even have power really would welcome you with open arms. Bon Voyage. Grow up and get over it.

I can understand cultural reasons why they may not have but I would be speculating, I leave speculating to the media and to those that know-it-all here. I dont blame Mercury entirely - but that does not mean I have to stay with them. We live by decisions made, mine is to move to another company. My question was simple - what other power companies are out there? Thanks to those that answered. |
