| 554217 | 2007-05-29 12:07:00 | I got lucky with a gift of this chili (www.imagef1.net.nz) - a Red Savina (en.wikipedia.org). It's a cultivar of the Habanero, but twice as hot. They were rated as the world's hottest chilis until superceded by two others in recent times. To put this into perspective, it's 65 times hotter (en.wikipedia.org) than a Jalapeno, and has a ton more heat than the Cayennes that I'm currently growing. This baby comes from seeds originally grown in Argentina, where a variety of it is known as Gringo Killer. Sadly it's not going into any meal I make, just yet - the seeds are destined for my back yard where I'm going to grow a small crop. Eat yer heart out Bob! (I'll send you some if the crop succeeds) :) |

| 554219 | 2007-05-29 13:07:00 | I'm sure my mum and younger brother will like em. And I'm sure the cat's will "love" em when try try to poo on our lawn. :xmouth: Personally I couldn't stand the damn things. Last time I had chilli, I ended up on the loo for three straight days. But I could see a recipe for chilli peppers stuffed with prawn mince or pork meat. Seedless of course Still got part of a bottle of that Sambal Oelek if your still interested. ;) |

And thanks again for the Sambal Oelek offer... I'll wait until you get a 44 gallon drum's worth then will take half off your hands. ;) Meantime I'm trying to develop my own version... half way there! :) |

| 554221 | 2007-05-29 19:40:00 | I used to think I liked things hot. Until a flatmate introed me to Jalapeno. I think I will stick with Medium. Incidentally, anyone tried the chilli salami they sell at the supermarket? (Brooks I think makes it). Wonderful going in, definitely cleans on the way out :D |

(Brooks I think makes it). It's not only a sad excuse of a salami (compared to decent European types), it also has so little chili in it that it'd make a sparrow moan! :groan: | Greg (193) | ||

| 554225 | 2007-06-04 04:12:00 | Update... We cut open the pepper just now and missus is planting the seeds. There were only about 50 seeds, black in colour. Needless to say I had to taste the pepper, so I took a bite of the fruit... just a small fingernail sized piece. Man... it is HOT! The seeds and the ribs inside the pepper are the hottest bits of course, but the rest is so hot I couldn't endure more than a small nibble. I think they're going to be best for adding to my pickles and to heat up currys. As for taste - rather bland on its own. Less flavourful even than a regular capsicum. Anyway, its all good... what a kick! |
