553766 2007-05-28 03:00:00 Hi all

Does anyone have any experience with Altec Lansing pc speakers?

I am interested in getting new speakers for music while I work (I don't do gaming), because my current Aiwa speakers are starting to buzz and rattle on bass notes and they have become quite irritating . I haved a wide taste in music, so I would like speakers that can manage soloists to bands to orchestras, modern and classical .

I have seen these on Ascent: Altec Lansing VS4121 2 . 1 System, 2 . 1 Speaker system . . ascent . co . nz/productspecification . aspx?ItemID=354942" target="_blank">www . ascent . co . nz

Any recommendations gratefully accepted, either for Altec Lansing or other manufacturers .

Thanks, John

553767 2007-05-28 03:20:00 I have those exact speakers I think.

Um... I like them, and have no problems with them. Sound good to me.

That's about all I can say. I can't say if they are awesome, or how they compare to other speakers, because I wouldn't have a clue.

Yeah... obviously I listen to so much music, that I don't have time to think about the sound quality between different speakers.

553768 2007-05-28 03:34:00 I use KLIPSCH PROMEDIA GMX 2.1 SPEAKERS which put out a good sound. Have had them for about 3 years. Maybe a bit to expensive but well worth the price. You can get them from here.
www.computerlounge.co.nz If you have not heard of Klipsch before, they are a high end speaker manufacturer from the US.

553769 2007-05-28 04:43:00 I bought the GT5051R set a couple of months ago.

Frankly, for the money I'm disappointed. Not much better than the set I replaced them with.

Had the sound card checked at the shop when PC was in a week or so ago, as I thought it may be faulty, or old.

Nope. Guy there said no need to replace/upgrade.

Maybe they just don't like my music! :D

Don't tell Mick and the boys....

553770 2007-05-28 05:10:00 Altec Lansing make good reliable PC speakers, but I think I think ascent for once are charging way too much - about $40 too much. gcarmich (10068)

553772 2007-05-28 08:05:00 Yup, Altec Lansing speakers are good. I got mine when I bought the system but they sound good, no problems and look good too:D beeswax34 (63)
553773 2007-05-28 09:32:00 To get the best out of good speakers you need a decent sound card as well.

I have a nVIDIA GeForce6200 (Gigabyte GV-NX62). Hope that is OK?

Thanks to all of you for your comments. Trev - that is a bit rich for me, but thanks anyway. gcarmich - you are correct on that one! Thanks for the heads-up - I checked Price Spy, and for some reason, Ascent are the second highest price; the first time I have ever come across such a price difference with them. I think I will buy from another Sth Is supplier that is about half the price, and they are reliable suppliers too (they aren't the cheapest, but I know them to be professional in their service, like Ascent).

Thanks again for all your advice folks.

John
