555101 2007-06-02 15:54:00 I believe there to be righteous and unrighteous uses of cracks and bootlegged copies .

Example:

I bought Power DVD and after installing it, with it all running nicely, had to format and start a new hdd . . . for one reason or another .

I lost the original container with the key for Power DVD, and sent an e-mail to the company . . somewhere in Northern California and then to China, where the company actually was at the time .

They told me that I was pounding sand and that they weren't going to give me a key even if I showed them the receipt or any other proof .

So . . I went and got a hacked key . . OK . . my bad . . . but I was angry .

Months later, I found the original box with the key . . but I still run the program on the hacked key .

I feel that under the circumstances I was exonerated by having bought the program legally in the first place, and they were buttheads for not helping a real customer . I still don't lose any sleep over it .

Or so I hear (was on the news or in the paper a while ago). Things may have changed since ...

I have a Sister named Glenda Foster. She bought a computer with Vista business installed. Wanted to upgrade and found it was going to cost heaps. Her letter was published in PC World recently.

That's the Apple division of Renaissance in NZ, I was referring to Apple HQ, Cupertino, CA. They release an overall breakdown of their revenue for each quarter in their financial statement which gets posted on Apple.com
