| 554722 | 2007-06-01 04:40:00 | Cos everyone uses GSM.There's like 7 GSM network providers in Hk.Each competiting against each other But are the 7 different GSM networks? There are at least two GSM providers in NZ, who are Vodafone and Orcon, and I think Telstra may also be one, however they all have to pay huge amounts to vodafone, so their prices aren't much different from vodafones. |

| 554727 | 2007-06-01 06:21:00 | There is only one GSM network provider (Vodafone), with several "onsellers" of that GSM service. Yes they are reseller GSM providers, who resell vodafones GSM. If we want cheap mobile phone calling, the government would need to unbundle the GSM network, like they have with fixed lines, and that way it would allow a lot more providers to setup competing mobile phone companies in NZ. |

| 554728 | 2007-10-08 02:50:00 | Apparently Telecom are going to announce that they will be switching to GSM technology, which is the same as Vodafone. Could be good for competition, as people will be able to easily switch between providers, by just switching their sim card. Anybody heard anything further about this ? I am looking at getting a new mobile and obviously dont want too if I have to replace it again in 3 months... |

| 554731 | 2007-10-08 08:41:00 | The thing is Vodaphone never competed on price so they kept the rates the same as Telecom's which is why our calling rates are just about the dearest in the world. I believe in some countries they force telecommuncition companies to share cell phone masts so that other companies can rent space on them and install their own equipment. That save expensive dupication of sites. That should happen here. Regards Digby |
