746553 2009-02-10 08:31:00 VLC is good. The one gripe is it doesn't remember the settings as I left them Phil B (648)
746554 2009-02-10 09:17:00 ?? RealPlayer still exists?

I concur, none of the above, ditch it entirely.

VLC isnt bad, but to be honest (Agreeing with Wainuitech) with ffdshow + MPC-HC, you cant go wrong :D CoreAVC is quite handy too if you're on an underpowered machine ...

746556 2009-02-10 20:28:00 None of the poll options :)
WinAmp for music
Media Player Classic for movies

The only time I use WMP is for getting licenses for DRM'd media.

746557 2009-02-10 20:29:00 VLC + WMP11

RealPlayer honestly gives me the shudders. It belongs in the same group as Norton.

Yep same here.

Also Win media player calssic.

The last few versions of VLC have been a bit buggy when using with multiple monitors, the last good version is 0.9.6.

The next version should be good though.

746558 2009-02-10 21:31:00 VLC : ugly, fast, plays anything.(who really needs pretty interface)

WMP: pretty, poor performance on slow PC's, issues getting it to play some files, (phones home??), more interested in DRM & flash interface than good performance

Itunes: the pits on PC. cant drag & drop. Tries to default to BS Mac media format. More interested in DRM & selling media than making an good media player.

746559 2009-02-10 22:12:00 Actually I think Itunes is now DRM free.

Just because Itunes and WMP can use DRM, it doesnt mean you have to use it on either

You can tell it not to phone home (or whatever), in its options

From this (www.apple.com) part of the apple website:

High-quality, DRM-free music.
iTunes Plus is the new standard on iTunes.
Now, you can choose from millions of iTunes Plus songs from all four major music labels and thousands of independents. With iTunes Plus, you get high-quality, 256-Kbps AAC encoding. All free of burn limits and digital rights management (DRM). So iTunes Plus music will play on iPod, Apple TV, all Mac and Windows computers, and many other digital music players. It’s also easy to upgrade your iTunes library to iTunes Plus. You don’t have to buy the song or album again. Just pay the 30¢ per song upgrade price. (Music video upgrades are 60¢ and entire albums can be upgraded for 30 percent of the album price.

Real bummer they make you pay to upgrade your library though...
