| 554287 | 2007-06-01 09:33:00 | Well i have received my HDMI cable and i have to say im blown away by the clarity of the picture and sound even though im well aware that no tv station in nz broadcast in hi def yet im still blown away by the pic i get which has now gone from 576p to 720p. Dvds are mind blowingly clear and razor sharp. I have tried the interlace method which i can set my tv to automatically switch to but i find progressive scan blows interlace out of the water. |

| 554291 | 2008-02-17 07:29:00 | I got my cable off a guy off trademe who works for tisco i think he said and he mentioned that you can spend $$$$$$$$$$ on HDMI cable and you will notice bugger all difference from a cheap cable. Another point id like to make i was in a certain Hi fi shop the other week and they guys who work there bought the most expensive blu ray player they could get and a couple of $6000 tv s very very highend tvs can't think of the name now they all stood there with one tv plugged in with a normal dvd player plugged in and running on component, the other tv with the blu ray player plugged in running hdmi to the tv,Now they were all there while i was present and none of us could tell if there was much picture difference between HDMI and component both tvs were at the same color and contrast settings but yet two different type s of players but bugger all difference in picture quality ok so there might be minimal difference but its very argumentative at the moment. They suggested that you still cant beat component tv inputs they also mentioned that they have had a lot of people returning there HDMI cables because they are splitting and the picture isnt as good,Also they mentioned it will be at least two years if not more before blu ray really starts to take off in this country. |

Was the blu-ray player playing a blu -ray disc? or just a normal dvd. was the dvd player upscaling the picture? to many unanswered questions in your story for it to hold any relevance |

| 554293 | 2008-02-17 07:42:00 | Blu ray player was playing blu ray disc and dvd player was playing normal disc and yes both tvs were upscaled and then returned to normal settings again later and still no difference. Blu ray is a load of hype ok so it can hold more info big deal but dvds will still be around for many many years yet even vinyl has come back into fashion. | Hitech (9024) | ||

I have looked myself playing both bluray and dvd through the PS3. There definitely is a difference. A a big enough difference that I would dump my dvd collection to replace it with bluray, no I wouldn't. But what I can say is that playing dvd's on the ps3 definitly looks a **** load better then playing them through my sony dvd player. |
