553821 2007-05-28 11:59:00 Why does the same air that dries out bread make biscuits go soggy? R2x1 (4628)
553822 2007-05-28 13:30:00 Have you ever seen a knicker on its own? But "knickers" is just a diminutive form of "knickerbockers" (as "pants" is of "pantaloons") and probably just inherits the "pair of" from pants with as poor a justification.

Just the other day I saw an ad in a female clothing boutique window saying "With every pant you get a free knicker"; how's that for an example of modern educational standards

553823 2007-05-28 14:30:00 If you are driving at the speed of light and you turn your headlights on, what happens?
You will never see light being projected from the front of your car as the relative motion between the speed of your car and the light beam is effectively zero.

Of course, you can never drive at the speed of light, given that E = mc^2 will convert you into pure energy :p . In addition to that, m (perceived) = m (stationary) / (Sqrt (1 - (v^2 / c^2)). As your velocity approaches the speed of light (c), you are going to get infinitely heavier. Therefore, the amount of energy needed to propagate your motion would be too big to be obtained to move.

Regarding the question of getting tanned when exposed to sunlight, it definitely has to do with the interaction between UV ray and pigment of your skin, but I am not entirely sure of the mechanism.

Cheers :)

553824 2007-05-28 20:18:00 Why is a boxing ring square?
According to The Encyclopedia of Boxing, by Gilbert Odd, the term goes back to bare-knuckle days. Spectators held a circle of ropes around the fighters, but they were always crowding in on the action. Eventually, they used stakes to hold the ropes, forming a square. aka The squared circle!
Incidentally, in early prize fights, they'd hang a purse from one of the stakes.sourced from here
(espn.go.com)Dunno how true that is, but it will do :p

553825 2007-05-28 20:36:00 Why can't women put on mascara with their mouth closed?
Usually coz they are talking at the same time. They call it 'multi-tasking'

The 'conversation' is dependant on who is in the room with them:

Woman (in front of mirror applying mascara) talking to her mate ...
"Did you hear that so-and-so has broken up with ... "

Woman (in front of mirror applying mascara) talking to her partner ...
"While I'm out with the girls tonight dear, can you bath the kids, clean ..."

:p

553827 2007-05-30 02:54:00 Why is it that rain drops but snow falls?
Cute obfuscation of the language, but no cigar .

Rain falls in drops, snow falls in flakes .

Collectively they are both falls: snowfall and rainfall .

Cheers
