www.apple.com

Doesn't appear to be any changes regarding the look and feel of it, so it must just be the coding (or lack of) behind the scenes.

554516 2007-05-30 20:53:00 Steve Jobs never actually wanted DRM in the first place. Apple was forced to add the DRM to the songs at the request of the record companies who want to stop people sharing music while overcharging people for the songs they download- hence the reason for the music execs trying to negotiate with Apple to get the song prices raised on iTunes so that the music boys can get a bigger cut of the revenues.

Apple wanted to keep the .99 cent model to compete against piracy. The theory was if the songs are cheap enough people won't need to steal them.

It would seem that there are a lot of things beyond Microsoft although they may not admit it.

554519 2007-05-31 07:40:00 That would be good, if they provided DRM free music for their entire music catalogue, but most of the music that is DRM free is old stuff. Some of the music you can pick up the CD from the Warehouse for $9.95 which is also DRM free and higher quality. rogerp (6864)

More of the music will be available DRM free as it gets loaded, it is probably just a matter of searching through to see what has been loaded so far. The Warehouse actually has a pretty good cheap selection available. The benefit of the iTunes cataloge is that the brand new stuff like Maroon 5's latest album which has reportedly sold 100,000 tracks in one week.

554522 2007-05-31 11:32:00 I'm just having a look now and it would appear that there is a reasonable sellection available in the iTunes Plus (clearly labeled) part of the store.
Parklife, Arctic Monkeys, KT Tunstal, Simple Minds etc... with more coming.

I think it is only EMI artists. I wonder if any other ones will be doing it. I can't see Sony releasing DRM free music somehow.
