556920 2007-06-07 06:28:00 Has this sort of thing happened to anyone else?
Just having a look through the computer last night to get rid of any rubbish I came across a programme called Uniblue Registry Booster (think it may have something to do with Registry Mechanic). I typed the name into Google and went to make a cup of coffe while the page was loading (dial up). When I came back I found the loaded page was a Porn site with all sorts on it. Scratched my head for a mo (head down!) then checked the Google name I had typed and I had simply missed out the "I" in Uniblue but Registry Booster was still evident in the name! Usually Google comes back and asks you if you meant "so and so" but not this time-straight to a Porn site. A friend had a similar experience when he was trying to find out details to set up a cheerleaders group for a small local school. He typed in Cheerleaders and up popped a Porn site-and this was on a school computer! Boy was he embarassed as he knew the details could still be found if checked till overwritten.
Can't seem to find a way to block this happening on Opera but will do a more careful check on the settings.
Regards Gordon.

556921 2007-06-07 06:33:00 Malware, pron and spammers do that on purpose to get you to go there. pctek (84)
556922 2007-06-07 06:33:00 Y'know, if you'd typed your query a bit more clearly, used better grammar etc including paragraphs and paraphrasing, I and some others would be more inclined to help.

As it is... I can't be bothered to read the diatribe.

Ignore Greg, he can get a bit grumpy at times . :xmouth:

<new paragraph>You will find thousands of websites, if not millions, built on the premise people sometimes miskey a word or phase . A good example is www . quantas . co . nz which when you can't remember whether qantas has a u in it or not (it doesn't of course) . I have been known to include the u in the URL and accidently go to the wrong site, but it is immediately obvious you are in the wrong place . Of course the person who runs the site hopes that you will see something you like and will click on it before you try and find the correct site www . qantas . co . nz .

Now the interesting thing is that if you type quantas into google, the first hit is a real qantas site, so their web guys have sussed that .

You have to careful . I was at work one day and searched for "delphi source code" (a software development language) . I ended up clicking on a link and up came a porn site . Boy, I got rid of that quickly .

556925 2007-06-07 07:03:00 Google did its best. It matched two of the three words you gave it. If you had wanted it to return only matches to all three, you should have told it. ;) like this (www.google.co.nz/search?hl=en&q=%22unblue+registry+booster%22&btnG=Google+Search&meta=) And it found it when people had mispelled it in the same way. Then it asked if you meant ...

Though some of the sites do look as if they have "interesting" content.

Scuse me Greg but when you are trying to type with one hand and your friggin nose or whatever, things do tend to go out the window a trifle and one hand cannot always do on the keyboard what may be grammatically correct. My apologies if I ruffled your feathers.
Thank's pctek, i was aware of that. I just tried the same on Firefox and it took me to the correct site with a "did you mean" so and so.
BTW greg etc has a full stop at the end. This little "diatribe" as you call it has taken me around 15 minutes to write so I should ask you to write a grammatically etc. correct response using only one hand and see how you get on. Ever tried piano and extending your hand over an octave?
Anyway thanks for the responses.
Regards Gordon.

Hi dolbydigtal-yes I have already susssed out the grumpy ones on this forum thank you . All I was trying to point out was that a simple typo can result in a real surprise/shock (scuse me Greg if my grammar doesn't match up to your expectations but I tend to write as I think-I can feel a dig coming but no probs . Having read your previous posts on peoples problems its pretty obvious you are well up with the play .
The thing that intrigued me having just done the same search in Firefox was that it "asked" the question whereas Opera took me straight to the Porn site . Is there a method of stopping these sites from loading in Opera? I know that in Firefox "SiteHound" (an add on from Maiwasher) will alert you to whether you want to go to the site or not . Yes Greg I'm still on a learning curve!
Regards Gordon .
BTW Greg-this one took 20 minutes or so .

556928 2007-06-07 10:42:00 Ignore Greg, others do when he is being sour . I had no problem understanding your post so I don't know why he is so lacking in comprehension .

I think one of the best "typos" was with ferrit . co . nz when it first went live . If you accidentally entered in ferrit . com you ended up at a rather R18 adult pictorial website :horrified . I think who ever was responsible for checking out domain names for ferrit got a royal slapping over that . Ferrit went offline again not longer after that and when it returned the domain of ferrit . com was now squeaky clean and part of the ferrit domain names . I do wonder how much they had to pay the owners of the original . com domain to gain ownership of it . . .

Well, I hear when senility starts kicking in, some older fullas tend to just spit out any old comment they feel like. Guess Gregs just going senile.
