555266 2007-06-02 01:03:00 "It was forty years ago today..."the Beatles taught the world to play....

And with that in mind, what do you think is the BEST Beatle's album...including the single artist's offerings like the Plastic Ono Band...with HER (she who ruined the Beatles):yuck:

I'm only gonna past 10 albums here, but I am sure that someone can think of a different one..not counting Japanese or Chinese bootlegged albums that aren't on the poll..but I only have 10 blanks to fill out so there!

You can write in your choice...of course!

555267 2007-06-02 01:32:00 ...and just in case you're interested, here's a fairly complete list of all the albums: <PS...I have ALL of these albums and a few more including the single albums by Ringo (and His All Star Band), John and Yoko (The Plastic Ono Band) and Paul's compilations (Cherries..etc). I just kinda skip over George Harrison, as I don't particularly like his themes....>

555269 2007-06-02 02:47:00 As a matter of interest (and probably to no-one except ourselves, but never mind) we called our first yacht 'Mr Kite' (20' Davidson) and the current, 'Sgt Pepper' (7.5 Farr). I have suggested the next will be 'Henry the Horse'. :) R.M. (561)
555270 2007-06-02 03:01:00 I have a 10 foot rowboat I call "Titanic" and had a 38 foot Grady White I called "2nd Job Site"

Might have to reconsider though...maybe "A Day In The Life"?

555271 2007-06-02 13:33:00 Nice poll. I went for Abbey Road. Greg (193)
555272 2007-06-02 15:38:00 Abbey was a real turning point for the Beatles....they got a little darker and more mysterious about that time. The "Paul is dead" controversy started then and they actually fed the rumor machine to amp-up their new sounds. Or was it all a misunderstanding?

Ah! George Martin at the helm!

But does anybody have any input on the story of Brian Epstein and the bag full of money he lost in "Baby You're A Rich Man"? I have my version....just want to get some different thoughts. :illogical

555274 2007-06-03 01:50:00 Which album has twist and shout? I am not a huge beatles fan but do appreciate a few songs, twist and shout being my this-is-kick-ass song! when I was 9 or 10 . I think it was from when I saw Ferris Beuller's(sp?) day off . .

As it was, The Beatles released the song on their first UK album, Please Please Me . This album recording session is notable for being their first album session and for 13 songs having been recorded in a mere 10 hours or so . Only 11 were actually pressed, some more or less on contract with various sellers and production plants who could or could not compress that much recording onto vinyl .

Twist and Shout was the last song recorded as producer George Martin knew John Lennon's voice would suffer from the performance and so he left it until last, having waited until there was only 15 minutes of studio time remaining for the album .

Lennon, suffering from a bad cold, was drinking milk and sucking on cough drops to soothe his throat . Actually producing a memorable vocal performance later he said his voice was not the same for a long time afterwards, and that "every time [he] swallowed, it felt like sandpaper . "

Two different takes were recorded, and the first take is the approved by Lennon final and was heard on the album . George Martin said, "I did try a second take . . . but John's voice had gone . "

It reached #2 on April 4th 1964, the week when the first five places on the chart were all Beatles singles .

In the United States, "Twist and Shout" was the only million-selling Beatles single that was a cover record, and the only Beatles cover single to reach the Top 10 on any national record chart .

In the UK, "Twist and Shout" was released on an EP (a large vinyl disc with a groove that held the music in hills and valleys form for a "needle" to trace and re-convert the signal to amplified sound) with three other tracks from the Please Please Me album .

It is regarded as one of the finest examples of British rock and roll for its vocal performance .

The song was used as a rousing closing number on Sunday Night at the London Palladium in October 1963 and at The Royal Variety Show in November 1963, the former signaling the start of "Beatlemania" .

They also performed it on their (US) Ed Sullivan Show appearance in February 1964 .

The Beatles' version of the song enjoyed a resurgence of popularity in 1986 after Matthew Broderick lip synced it in the film Ferris Bueller's Day Off .

BTW: The Rodney Dangerfield film Back to School (released two days after Ferris) also featured the song, this one sung by Dangerfield himself and patterned after the Beatles' arrangement . The use in the two films help propel the single up the Billboard Hot 100, where it peaked at #23 that summer .
