747247 2009-02-12 21:34:00 What will you be using it for? If you are a graphic designer or require accurate colours, you will need an IPS screen. IPS screens don't go bright or dark when you look at the top and bottom of the screen.

www.tftcentral.co.uk (look for the panel search) will tell you who manufactures the panel in any screen. IPS are mainly produced by LG. These panels are used in high end NEC, Dell, HP and Apple displays.

You could also go for PVA, they are a cheaper alternative to TN displays (which suffer from colour changes when the viewing angle changes). PVA screens are mainly made by Samsung and are in higher end Dell and Samsung screens.

747248 2009-02-12 21:39:00 And DONT buy off Trademe - that price is actually a rip off, it's cheaper at www.ascent.co.nz free postage too.

www.ascent.co.nz

www.computerlounge.co.nz has it for the same price as TM, with free postage.

747249 2009-02-12 22:03:00 for utopian201's information, I am a student so I will be using it for study, a bit of CAD design, PCB design, etc. but I am also a gamer (on a tight budget :dogeye:), waiting for starcraft2 to come out, and i do play a lot of games.

thnks wratterus for your suggestion. the only thing bugging me on trademe is the after sale support bit, now that you gave me something better I will go for the ones not on trademe then. but still, whats up with that "Dead Pixel Policy May have some pixel defects" bussiness??

thnks guys, keep it up.

cheers

747250 2009-02-12 22:35:00 Nah didn't post the wrong link. The link I posted was for all monitors at Ascent. You needed to scroll down and pick the monitor you wanted.

For your needs, then basically get the cheapest with HDMI.

Dell's pixel policy is somewhere, I can't find it right now. But Dell have an advanced exchange if the pixel policy is breached; they send you a new monitor, you put the broken in the box they sent you and you send it back. Can't get much more convenient than that.

747252 2009-02-12 23:33:00 So "Dead Pixel Policy May have some pixel defects" means that depending on my luck it will or might comes with dead pixels then...

I think I will buy the Viewsonic VX2233WM from PlayTeh, it comes with a "
3yr On-Site Pickup, Perfect Pixel Policy (zero bright pixel policy)" and that sounds more insuring. :D

thnks for the help guys. cheers

747255 2009-02-13 01:16:00 Zero bright pixel warranty means that the display is guaranteed to have no bright pixels only, if there are dead black pixels your screwed.

My dell laptop has one black pixel - it died before my warranty was over, however the dell policy, at least on my system was that there needed to be 6 or more for the display to be at fault. And before you all jump on the dell bashing bandwagon, most other companies have similar black pixel policies.

Edit: spelling. I hope no one read the un-checked version... who spells pixel as pixle 4 times :S
