556141 2007-06-05 11:41:00 They are useful, in some conditions such as frost, but so is a heated rear window. Once had a Nissan Bluebird ZXEi with all the bells and whistles that had a rear wiper, hardly ever got used.

I guess it's extra cost and little benefit. On a hatch its essential (present 5 door hatch gets coated rear window on a shingle road, previous sedans did not). As above, to do with the aerodynamics. Why add $100 to the cost for no real benefit?

556142 2007-06-05 14:10:00 if it's a merc/audi/bmw/porche i don't think $100 is going to matter!

all rears get wet if your car gets rained on in a parking lot (or auckland motorway lol), so why they aren't there is beyond me

556143 2007-06-05 22:57:00 they are diffently usefull. so much easier to see through a wiped window when its raining. i think a lot of ot comes down to space advailable to fit the motor etc in. also looks plays a part, they make the vechile look untidy, noone cares on a shopping trolly but a flash car is a different story, looks are everything. tweak'e (69)
556144 2007-06-05 23:01:00 If you use "Rain-X" on the windscreen and rear window, wipers are seldom needed anyway. Reapply about every 2 months. Highly recommended. godfather (25)

I second the use of Rain-X. Brilliant stuff. You do have to be careful, though. It can be hypnotic sometimes watching the water flying off the windscreen when crusing at 100km/hr. No wipers necessary.

556146 2007-06-06 00:19:00 And where do you get this "Rain-X" ?
Repco? SuperCheap?

556147 2007-06-06 00:37:00 I got my last bottle from a BP petrol station off the shelf that's now got biscuits :D PaulD (232)
556148 2007-06-06 01:27:00 Mainly because European cars being notoriously unreliable, they would get in the way of those having to push the thing to the nearest garage dvm (6543)
556149 2007-06-06 02:14:00 More likely because
1. If you indicate that you are changing lanes the following traffic slows to let you rather than speeding up. This is the only safe way to cope with other traffic coming onto motorways.
2. As the Italians say "What's behind you isn't important."

Repco ? SuperCheap ?

Both those places should stock it. I think I got my last bottle from the Warehouse. Kmart might have it. Some of the better stocked (i.e. more than just biscuits, chips, pies etc) service stations should have it.

(Funny, when you mentioned Repco, I was reminded of something I was told many years ago - REPCO = Rip Every Poor "Customer" Off) Their prices can be a tad high for things that are not particularly rare...
