* Low (if I remember rightly, 300dpi) resolution
* Noisy as hell
* Slow

Don't know whether its what you're after or not.

That would be good, except it is pick up only & I'm at the other end of the country.

Bletch - That is exactly what I'm looking for. I'm looking for it for a business that prints their invoices on carbon paper. I've managed to find a dot matrix that needs a new ribbon, so I'll see if I can get a new ribbon for that first - probably cheaper than couriering a large printer the length of the country.
Thank you for the very generous offer even if I do end up using the other printer I found.

* SlowGhostscript can produce pretty good output. That does need a good ribbon.

The noise shows that you're working. :D

I've seen 600 lpm. That's not slow. Many inkjets are very slow.

556118 2007-06-05 06:28:00 Yeah I know it's a fair bit faster than most inkjets of a similar era, but when you compare it to a modern inkjet or laser - not even close. Erayd (23)
556119 2007-06-05 06:32:00 There's one great advantage that most impact printers have . You plug them in and they work . You send characters to the parallel port and the printer prints them .

Look at the "fun" people have installing modern printers, especially USB connected ones . :(

556120 2007-06-05 06:39:00 I have a parallel printer - on the network. It was easy to set up, plug it in to the host and it went fine, install the driver on every other PC and it works fine. pcuser42 (130)
