555908 2007-06-04 11:25:00 I don't plan on buying one myself because it is not the sort of phone that I use or would need, although I would imagine that there will be sufficient demand from people in NZ to warrant Apple NZ bringing them in when sufficient numbers become available.

When the iPod first came out everybody said it was a crazy over priced device that wouldn't sell....100 million + units and many failed "iPod killers" later...;)

555909 2007-06-04 11:28:00 You know, I really really really wish I cared what mp3 players people buy.

Wait, No I don't.

555910 2007-06-04 11:45:00 Hell, 3g isn't even implemented in a worthy manner in NZ, My phone has probably logged onto a 3g system twice in its life.

3G was pretty under utilised in Europe, it didn't stop people from buying 3G capable phones. This time the 3G network might actually get utilised.

555911 2007-06-05 07:22:00 IPhone is coming out end of this month here in US.
For NZ its will be out there June 2008 at the earliest.

I am getting one this month...it will retail for about US$500 - 600 :D
Its good to be living in US for these sort of things...you always get it first :)

If you are not planning on buying this why ask?

Keep on imagining then.

555915 2007-06-05 09:58:00 Why asume it would come here at all?Demand. Assuming the model for the rest of the world is 3G, then it wouldn't take much effort to get it working here (the only special thing Vodafone would need to support would be visual voicemail - if they are an EU carrier, then it is even less work). If they don't sell it themselves, I'm sure someone will parallel import them eventually. Maybe we should have a poll closer to the time. :D

I'm planning on buying one provided...

...it is 3G (don't want to be paying for dial up speed internet access, I'd rather go without and stick to WiFi hotspots).
...the minimum monthly fee isn't hideously expensive, or the minimum contract isn't super long.
...it works with Auckland University's NetAccount system.
...I actually like it when I see it in real life.

555916 2007-06-05 10:09:00 We will know soon enough if it has GPS capabilities. And I am pretty sure that the iPhone will be work on a 3GSM network since it has been updated with a lot of stuff since the initial announcement. winmacguy (3367)
555917 2007-06-05 11:07:00 It looks like it is open to third party developers with more info to come out at the upcoming WWDC. winmacguy (3367)
