555798 2007-06-04 00:01:00 My 2 biggest recommendations to clients/friends:

Firefox (ditch IE)
Common sense (especially when opening e-mails - even those from friends (if the subject seems dodgy, don't open it. Ring them, ask if they sent it...))

Sounds like you need to do more recommending in the common sense department because there are a lot of people with infected machines.

555801 2007-06-04 00:36:00 There seems to be a lot of "discussion" over how and where and what to do about security .

Windows XP-Pro w/SP-2 and ALL M$ updates, downloaded but installed by ME only .

A physical firewall (Linksys BEFSR41)

A software firewall . Mine is from Windows and it works for outgoing only . . with the Linksys one, I feel I am protected enough .

Now . . what NOT to do:

Stay away from: AOL, AIM, Netscape, IE, McAfee, Norton, Symentec, on-line scanners, NO . warez sites . . . be ye very careful with P2P and Torrents too .

The WeatherBug, Free Screenshots, etc, Free Desktop (Daily) the big monkey-thingy, eww! :2cents:

OK . . your turn . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Maybe you could send your suggestions to the editor of NZ Netguide . co . nz, it would make for a helpful article .

555802 2007-06-04 00:47:00 Not sure where to ask this, but is there any decent spyware removal programs that you don't have to register (pay money) to get them to remove spyware, not just tell you that you do actually have spyware? ZeroIndex (12331)

Spybot, Ad-aware Rogueremover (For rogue software).

To name a few.

Just be careful what u get or use, as some programs install spyware/malware.
